Kinda sad that there aren't many mods for it either...
For example I woulda love day time and playing as other character models after I've done all the quests and I was just running flying around for achievements, ghosts, etc to collect...
They are in photo mode but that is basically useless for me as I don't take photos often...
I see giant (missed?) opportunities for this game let alone this ip.
I hope it gets multiple anthology sequels each set at modern times just in another regions of the world with their own supernatural lore come alive, like nordic with norse mythology, egypt with egyptian, then europe and russia with their folktales, then usa with their urban legends, ireland, middle and south america, africa, arabic regions, china, philippines, etc they all have unique supernatural lore, myths, legends, urban legends, folklore, folktales, everywhere all around the globe... How about an aussie ghostwire? :D
And ofc their own pet-able feed-able beings, the most important point... XD
Seriously tho

Could well be the case unless they have done it just to make you feel bad.
Anyway that would be animal discrimination.
Cats also are generally better at hunting, since they can catch mice and birds without too much trouble, where as dogs would be unlikely to hunt one, let alone try to eat it, therefore, there is less of a need to feed cats, who will more likely survive fine on their own, rather than dogs, who will struggle to find food without their owners to feed them.
As for the devs preferring dogs over cats, not at all, Japanese folklore and myths elevate cats to an almost deified level, they're said to bring fortune and a great many other things. Dogs on the other hand, they see as man's greatest companion, and a symbol of loyalty. There is however, a reason why dogs feature more prominently in this than would be normal for a game based around Japanese folklore, myths and legend, and it's because of the game's location.
There's a statue of a dog named Hachiko in Tokyo (which I believe is also featured in this game) which has a truly heartbreaking tale to it, and stands as a testament to how loyal a dog can be: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachikō
In fact, the dog graffiti you find in the game is based on Hachiko, and images and graffiti of him is quite common around real-world Tokyo. This is the reason why dogs in this get so much attention, because one of Tokyo's most well-known animals is a dog.
