What am I thinking about? It's a good time for a metroidvania game. This genre is absolutely fantastic, beautiful - let's play games like Ori and I believe Frozenbyte could make a good metroidvania game. In this game there will be three new characters chosen by Trine so this game will be connected to Trine series but it will not be a continuation of the adventures of Amadeus, Zoya and Pontius.
From a meta perspective, there is literally no advantage to removing one (or more) of the iconic character. People who loves the Trine games would be seriously unhappy if they killed off the main heroes of Trine...now if they made it so that extra people could be temporally added to the Trine, while one of the main characters went off on a solo quest, that might be viable, although thinking up an entire new class of character that doesn't just duplicate one of the originals would be somewhat tricky, something like the Necromancer you fight near the beginning might work, you could maybe do things like have his rat skeletons throw characters into the air, or you could stack them and climb up them, or maybe they could be used to interact with the environment, like hanging off chains, weighing platforms down, or picking up a tree and smashing through otherwise solid objects.
Your idea: "make a reincarnation of the same characters because reasons..." Doesn't sound like there's any novelty in this idea.
I'd love to see Frozenbyte explore more 3D concepts like they did with Trine 3 or even try some open world ideas, but I'd bet that is also a lot more expensive to develop.
You're right, I was wrong. As I wrote Trine will always be a story about three heroes - Amadeus, Pontius and Zoya. If Trine 6 was based a new characters it wouldn't really change anything and could hurt the series a lot but ... my idea still makes sense if we mean spin off. Trine spin off could be a metroidvania about new three heroes, it would be something new like a new series but it wouldn't be in the same timeline as Trine 1/2/3/4/5. Metroidvania games like Ori are very popular, magical and I believe that Frozenbyte could make a good game. Nine Parchments is also a spin off.
interesting point of view, but I don't understand one thing... how do our heroes see these adventures? From their perspective, are they sharing the same body or is the trine forcing them to take part in the adventure?
