Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy

How many years from Trine to Trine 5?
Well, I'll start by saying that in the first trine:
Zoya is about 18
Pontius is about 30
Amadeus is about 25
Then, in the end, Amadeus' children are born,
+2 years
Trine 2
Zoya is 20
Pontius is 32
Amadeus is 27
Nothing big happens, no mentioning of anything.
[skip trine 3]
In trine 4, things definitely changed.
Zoya is now about 24
Pontius is about 36
Amadeus is 27
Trine 5
What. How is Amadeus' children young adults? What the heck? They look at least seventeen!
Please, Trine developers, do something about this horrible catastrophe!

TL;DR: amadeus children are below 1 at the end of trine 1, there are three months between T1 and T2, six years from T2 to T3, five years from T3 to T4 and 1 year from T4 to T5, so they are around 13 years old

In trine 1's epilogue it's said that they learnt the fireball spell "before the age of one", so there's an upper limit of 12 months.

Trine 2

T1's epilogue also says "in the spring a new king was elected", the time elapsed between T1 and T2 could be as low as three months, assuming T1 takes place during late winter and T2 takes place spring next year after said king was elected, and as high as a year and nine months, assuming T1 takes place during early autumn and T2 takes place summer two years ahead, given the upper limit of 12 months, i'd say the former is more likely.

You shouldn't, in a removed piece of dialogue while going through the boat in the beach level, amadeus says "it is a miracle the triplets haven't torched this to the ground", which implies they are old enough to walk, explore and aim fireballs on their own, but not mature enough to know what not to burn, maybe around 7 years old?.

There is a gap as T3 story was never fully revealed, but at some point in T4 it was revealed that they're still paying their children's tuition, which implies they are still going to school, nine parchments story helps here, it happens around this time frame, the trailer says "it takes nine long years" to become a wizard, and since amadeus and every other character featured in 9P is the same age in 9P as in trine 4's DLC (the whole quest could have happened in under 12 hours in-universe), it can be said that the triplets are between 12 to 14 years old at the very end of T4.

This is subjective, it can only be speculated that they are at least 13 and not older than 15, my bet would be on 13 because, while captive, the triplets say amadeus has forgotten their birthday "for the last six years", i assume amadeus started taking vacations since T3 because something terrible was happening, which made him forget important events in his schedule.

This is an amazing explanation, I shouldn't have skipped Trine 3. Thank you!

Pontius also mentioned in the Sinister Back Alleys level that the town has "changed a lot in the past ten years," which Amadeus attributes to them protecting the Kingdom with their powers of Trine.

Looks like a minimum of ten years has taken place between Trine 1 and 5. I don't think it's exactly ten years though, since the triplets were born at the end of Trine 1 and they already look like they're in their teens now.

So, my headcanon is that the number of years that pass by in-universe is the same as the number of years between each new game- meaning 14 years across Trine 1 to Trine 5 (2009 - 2023). That would fit the triplet's physical appearance better.

I wouldn't place much stock in the appearance of the characters' models as ballmarks for age. The 9P students have looked the same throughout 9P, Trine 4, and Trine 5- exception of Nim. Pretty sure they would have graduated if not for the academy exploding!

Thank you, that seems like a good explanation. Maybe even better than mine...
