Chionophile

I feel like an idiot, but I can't get out of the gated area (I assume I am meant to unlatch the gate and proceed down the path). I get right up to it, but get no helpful prompt, like I did when I played Bottle. Just clicking the left mouse does nothing. Help!

Hey, you just pick up the glowing flower, and use it on the circle pedestal.

Same problem. I picked up the flower and used it on the circle and read the lovely bit of poetry. I went back to the gate but still could not go through. In the "controls" menu it said to press E and the left mouse button to interact with something but that didn't work either. Forgive my confusion but I have never played a game like this and it looks so beautiful!

In this game after you read the bits of poetry a new path opens. In the beginning it is the one up the hill.
