What's multiplayer like?
So the store page says there's online co-op. What's it like? Can you join people's games at at will, or do you have to invite specific people? What kind of progress is there for the joining person? Can the visiting player actually contribute or are they just playing walking simulator while you do everything?

I'm a bit sad that you can't meet new people through the game's multiplayer, but it's not entirely unexpected.

As to the other, what do mean by "you have independent quests"? Will I be able to contribute towards the hosts quests if I'm in their game? Will I be able to trade materials or collectibles to them to help with quests?

Hello!

Independent quests mean that each player will have their own and individual progress with the quests and storyline. This way, we can allow multiple people to share a world even if they are at different stages of the story!

You can, however, give items and materials to your friends to help them with the quests. You can even send them money while in multiplayer mode through the ATMs around the city, or have shared storages in the house!

For example, let's say that you're playing with a friend and doing a quest which asks you to turn in 10 fish. You can't turn in 5 fish each to amount to 10 - you'll need 10 for you and your friend will need 10 for them!
But, if you catch 15 fish, you can give the 5 extra ones to your friend to help them finish their quest!

That sounds pretty good. Thanks!

Honestly, I only play this game with my partner in multiplayer, and we’ve run into quite a few issues:

  • The map doesn’t work. There’s a button that’s supposed to show you where you are, but it just doesn’t work for us at all in multiplayer. It only worked for me in single player, and even then it was just okay.
  • No matter who hosts, the person joining the session gets kicked out multiple times.
  • If we’re not getting kicked out, we usually have to restart the game due to lag spikes. Desyncing and lagging are a huge problem for us, and it’s gotten close to unplayable.. this is a shame because the game has so much potential.
  • Only the host can use build mode. That’s a bit of a letdown since he loves to build and I love to decorate.
  • This one’s hard to explain, but sometimes you just float. We’ll randomly spawn in odd places, or NPCs will appear or float unexpectedly. When this happens, our menus stop working too, and we’re not sure why.

I’m sure there are other problems, but these have been the biggest ones we’ve experienced in multiplayer.

Hi Boo, thank you so much for such a detailed report! These help us out a lot!

We're aware of the issues with multiplayer. It's a slow process but we're working hard on the backend at the moment to improve stuttering, lag spikes and performance.

I just shared your comments with our programmer responsible for multiplayer! We're gonna take a closer look at these ones you're reporting.

Could you please tell me which platform you and your partner are playing on?
