But gameplay differs a lot.
AOD has easier colony defence but general map clearing needs more micro than TAB.
AOD has no noise or infection so early game is easier.
+there are no offmap spawns in survival mode.
Nightmares respawn after a death night ends in places there is no vision.
+game uncommonly spawn pester waves into areas not under building vision or light.
And there is a campaign which is only around 15 hours long with an actual story.
It is a useful tutorial for survival mode+give a lot of backlore.
There are enough gameplay differences+there are heroes which play similary to Warcraft 3 minus the items.
So you will use active skills a lot more while TAB has none.
I have 200+hours in TAB and I find AOD to be fun.
Both game are harder than usuall games.
AOD is slightly more demanding.
Edit:Eventually AOD will have coop survival mode.
Very few in the genre has coop mode
Even building worth same gold as in TAB. I'm surprised they weren't sued for copy-paste
Only new units, mechanics can save this. But they'd most likely block it by a dlc paywall.
This game is very little like TAB.
IMO i find the RTS-like gameplay in AOD better than TAB. i got bored with TAB long before i got bored with AOD. still not bored with AOD.
There is a good chance you will like if you like TaB. It shares the same core concept of trying to survive against walls of monsters but this game is differnt in a lot of other ways. It has factions which add much flavor TAB didn't have. Each faction has two different heroes to choose from giving it even more flavor then TAB. Clearing the map helps to soften the blow in TaB but in AoD you need to clear as much for resources and other bonuses including softening monsters incoming. There is also a positive and negative mechanic when you finish each wave.
I didn't like Tab's campaign and have yet to try AoD campaign yet so i cant comment on that.
