that's exactly what I tried, grabbing the spear with the X button after it's stuck in the platform. Nothing happens, so I guess this is a bug

From your description I think I understand what's going on here, so I'll try and help. ^_^
You should have the spear in your hand when pressing and holding X near the leaver zone, if you throw it on the ground and then press X you wont have the spear in hand to stick it, and use it to push or pull. Please confirm if this was the issue. ;)

hmm, will try this a bit later to see if it works. if it's possible to use the spear as a tool without throwing it, that should probably be explained a bit more clearly in the final game
Other than that though, I'm really, really enjoying the mechanics of the game so far. Puzzle platformers are my favourite genre and I'm always happy when a new (good) one is released. Looking forward to the full version!
