PSA: For anyone who has a laptop with an intel Iris XE graphics chip
Windows is LYING to you. There IS an updated graphics driver for your chip, which almost doubles its framerate and you can get it here:

If your copy of Democracy 4 seems slow, this is why. Windows update is apparently too useless to spot that this is a driver thats way better than the 2 year old buggy mess that you get by default!

Game is super slow and buggy after 10-15 minutes of play on Intel Core i5 laptop. Might return the game. Not sure why you are blaming windows for your lagging game...

The chip on your motherboard is often not as important as the graphics chip. An i5 is a relatively low spec chip as it is, but may I ask what graphics chip is in your laptop?
'lag' in a game like this is entirely graphics card related. Its a turn based game, and no serious processing is done until you click next turn.
I strongly suggest ensuring you have the latest drivers for your video card.
