Female guard (Rhea?) combat - Need help
She seems at least 3x tougher than her male friend (I made sure the encounters are comparable, particularly my health). I'm unable to take her down, am I missing something?

P.S. controls are weird, probably catering to FPS players. It's a knife guys, it doesn't have a scope. Why not just a left click?

You use the LMB to interact with the environment, so holding the RMB to use the knife prevents you from mixing the two different actions.

There is already a button to equip/unequip the knife so thats doubled. Also holding down isn't very ergonomic when the same button/key can also act as a toggle.

Guess they didn't want you to switch back and forth between knife and empty hands.
How is clicking LMB while holding RMB not ergonomic? That's how you aim and shoot in almost any FPS, or block in some melee combat games.

Btw, I didn't have a problem with any of the fights. Just stab everybody a few times and use the health items.

I found it quite easy to kill her, but the guy always killed me in my 2nd playthrough.

Try to attack them from behind (crouching). Lure them with the Gramophone. After a fight heal yourself. You have 3 bandages and 1 medikit to collect in the chests scattered along the place.
And hold RMB all the time!
They are 3. two are patrolling the exit. The other appears with the "music"

I didn't notice the female guard requiring more hits or being significantly harder to kill. If you are experiencing a noticeable difference and you can record or repeat this it may be a bug. You could join the discord server for the game, the developers are very active there and there is a dedicated channel for bugs/issues to be reported.

If you miss with your swings and take a few hits, retreat to a new location and heal (you may need to do this a couple of times if necessary). I know that some people find it can help if you crouch whilst attacking, however it will be harder to escape if you do.

The best advice I can give is to retreat and hide behind a doorway then attack when they come through as it limits them to one at a time.

If you are stuck and want to progress the game you can also use the distraction to avoid combat before coming back and trying again later.

That's what I suspected. There has been a constant trickle of Shooter/Combat games into other genres. I guess it's an attempt to reach a broader audience, but I don't think it does either genre a favour.

I guess if you play those regularly, you've already trained your fingers and you don't notice anymore. When you have formal ergonomics training, you learn that all these are bad designs:
  • Requiring more than one thing to be done at the same time (but can be necessary for safety reasons). This splits your attention, which humans are bad at.
  • Requiring sustained force to be applied (rather than sporadic or rhythmic force). Our muscles are made for motion, not static positions, and fatigue rather quickly under those conditions.
  • Using weak muscles to perform frequent or sustained actions, like ring finger or pinky muscles.
"Hold RMB while click LMB" violates all three of these rules. It takes about 30-60 minutes until I feel pain in these fingers while trying to beat that level. I'm completely untrained, of course, as I never play shooters or combat games (I'm a trained soldier and it's the opposite of fun for me).

I think it's good that the developer's are willing to try new things and expand any sequels in slightly new directions rather than just re-iterating the same things again and again. These free games are good opportunities for them to test out these new mechanics before implementing the final versions in the full upcoming sequel.

I think its more than just appealing to a broader audience as even with the combat mechanics these aren't fast paced first person shooter's. I think thematically it just suited its inclusion in this game particularly considering the plot and subject matter.

For me personally my main draw to these games is the rich lore behind the universe they constructed and I am interested to see where they go and how they build on it in any future games. Any new mechanics introduced, some will work some won't or will need tweaking but ultimately the core of the game will be the same. At least for me.

It doesn't feel like experimenting for me, not in the sense of unleashing creativity. To me, it feels like business getting in the way of creativity. A bit like "most people like hip hop or rock music, let's make a crossover and get rich!" I play a lot of stealth, and it's becoming more and more action. This is particularly annoying as action is plenty already and stealth is rare. The core idea of stealth is an unsurmountable enemy that requires caution and strategy, avoiding confrontation as much as possible. Action is about an enemy that requires speed and precision and must be confronted, not avoided. Try to combine it and the result is a spoiled 15yo noble girl that carefully navigates through haystacks to then suddenly defeat a small army single-handedly without breaking a sweat. It doesn't go along, you get a poor instance of either concept.

Um, I stealthed fine, I got both achievements, killing them all and sneaking away untouched.

Just lure them one at a time, you cannot survive two armed assailants at once, like, you know in real life..

Also. the woman in the main room, I was able to kill in one stab, to the head..

The guys are the ones who were hard, at least for me.

When I went to kill them, I just... walked straight into the room and stabbed them both. They hit me down to one health, but someone it feels like this might be one of those "Don't overthink it, just spam attack" situations.
moira.lachesis 26 Mar, 2021 @ 10:50am
That DEFINITELY doesn't work. You probably got very lucky.

At the top of the theater seating, there's a door on your right that you went through earlier. To the left of it, it a window with a curtain. If you are crouching and stand in front of the curtain, it seems like the woman can sometimes detect you. You'll hear the "spooky sound". If you only hear it briefly, she probably didn't detect you. If you hear it for a second or two, she probably did. You can hide behind the door, up the stairs a little. You'll be ble to see her silhouette as she passes the lamp and you can easily sneak up on her alone.

It's possible that the guy might detect you too. be careful.

Also, the guy on the stage doesn't spawn in until to walk up to the corpse on the stage. Not sure if you need him for the achievement.
