1350 hours and two attempts to "complete" this game --the grind never ends-- Its a very good idle game but is more a very large puzzle than a true idle game. Many portions of the game needs exact stategies to pass or way more grinding. Yes this game is certainly completable in much less than the time I played but thats being painfully optimal/active for an "idle" game lmao. First time around I stopped at around whats called the automator a very intimidating feature when you first look at it and is capable of some crazy things however to complete the game you honestly only need like 3-4 small scripts at most. Or 1-2 scripts that you edit. If its still too much to play then I suggest a guide and if you dont like guides then play for as long as your comfortable. I would reccomend this game to idle/clicker lovers however expect the long run. This game is entirely possible to complete without any purchases and infact in the later stages of the game the purchases mean nothing but if you find yourself completing this game you might find yourself replaying this game down the line. All purchases are more or less small boons to help you while also supporting the devs which deserve it. Honestly im stuck here now contemplating what to do now lmao as after a long winded game like this completing it feels difficult as its either back to the beginning, find a new idle game or quit while you have sanity left lmao.

I've played a lot of different kinds of Idle games over the years, starting with the OG Cookie Clicker, various flash games, mobile games, and several of the more popular ones here on Steam. That being said, I am confident that I can say this with absolute certainty: Antimatter Dimensions is the single best Idle game I have ever played. Let's talk about why:

First, the graphics. Admittedly, the graphics are extremely basic, but as you get further into the game, it becomes apparent that it's a good thing. Firstly because there is no way you can visually represent what is happening in game, as the numbers simply get too massive to be able to display without putting a huge strain on your graphics card, and secondly because AD is grounded in a hyper-focus on the core tenant of "number go up," and so it's designed to present that in the most efficient way possible.

Second, progression. One thing I've noticed in a lot of idle games is that progression seems to dilate over time. Sure, resetting a given progression layer lets you work through it faster the next time, but you also have to aim for higher milestones, which often leads to each cycle taking as long or longer than the one before it. In AD, it's the opposite. Every time you reset a particular prestige level, you can get back to where you started faster the next time around, until it gets to the point where you're essentially just skipping that level entirely.

And on that note, the actual mechanics of progression are unique and interesting as well. There's a lot of different moving parts in this game, and there are certain things that improve your speed more than others, so while it's always possible to just "Buy next upgrade" over and over, being strategic about what you upgrade and when can make a HUGE difference in progression speed. Also, there are times when progress is extremely fast, and other times when it slows down for various reasons, making the game feel much more dynamic and less repetitive than other idle games.

Third, and this is incredibly important to me: The Ending. Yes, this game has an ending. Yes, it takes a long time to reach it, but it's there. It's not just an endless grind until you get to the end of the current game and then just wait for the next update. It's going somewhere. It has an end-goal to reach, and when you get there it's satisfying. Not just mechanically, but also, strangely enough, narratively as well. (Yes, this game also has a story... technically.)

Fourth, and finally... microtransactions. Yes, they are in this game. However, the game has been balanced so that normal progression requires no purchases by the player. If you wanna speed your way through the game, you can use real money to buy the upgrades, but it's entirely possible to play through to the end without buying any of them. I already have, multiple times.

So yeah, all in all, this is definitely the best Idle game out there on the market today, and it will probably continue to hold that crown for quite a while.
