Wish the death bonus system was optional.
When you die, I think you should be given the choice to either reload an old save or continue with the bonus. I want to be able to practice with some of the melee weapons, but in order to do so I need to reload a save right before dying because I don't want to deal with the combat boost. At the very least, the death save shouldn't save over your old save.

And no, it isn't about losing points at the end of a run, I don't really care about that aspect. I just feel like the combat boost takes away from the difficulty of the game.

There's no death bonus on Nightmare mode. The game was designed with a single continuous save in mind. Making you press on through deaths, discourage save-scumming, etc. The bonus is a small incentive to counter some of the difficulty for people who are struggling - although you earn fewer RP at the end of the run as a compromise.

But really I'm just being 100% transparent about it. Every survival horror game nowadays already has adaptive difficulty that you can't turn off. They just don't want you to know about it. Every Resident Evil game for example will adjust item drops, damage, criticals, etc. depending on how well/poorly you're doing. At least I don't punish the player when they're doing well - only deaths affect the difficulty, and only on the standard modes.

I understand your reasoning for it, I'm just not used to being directly shown that sort of thing. Feels... weird? I'll have to play more and see how I end up feeling about it cause I decided to take a break until I got a response from you about it.
