Amalgam is a fantastic mod that sits well as an expansion for Half-Life 2. It does a particularly great job of incorporating the series's core gameplay principles and themes, far better than most fan-made projects.

Powerful atmosphere and balanced distribution of puzzles and fighting told me the level design here was nailed: I even felt a genuine sense of unease in some parts. My only criticism is the lack of lighting in one area, which made it particularly difficult to navigate.

Side note, the mod is quite short, and no it does not take 12 hours to complete. I had it open in the background and on first run-through it took me no more than 3 actual hours of gameplay.

I'd also like to mention the truly fantastic soundtrack Amalgam has and what is just an AMAZING G-Man impression. Overall, I cannot recommend this mod enough to anyone wanting more Half-Life 2, and the team has done a fantastic job here.

Great mod, highly recommended. The game has good storytelling that shines in the level design, dialogue, voice acting and sense of purpose with the main mission. I also like the way that exploration is rewarded in the level design. The best mods are the ones that have endings, and I liked this one.

It's interesting. Gives a nostalgic feel.
