Had an issue where around the mouse is a box, and in that box all the colours are inverted. Has anyone else encountered that before, and if so, how had you resolved it?

i have poor eyesight and was wondering if the game's UI can be any bigger then it is?

I've tried compatibility mode for 8,7,vista,xp,98,95 I am on windows 11 and from these forums, reddit etc the game should "just work" however it opens a 640x400 window and then just closes again, no matter what i do it does not run at all. i have dx9 installed, legacy components on windows 11 turned on and nothing i've tried that seemingly worked for others have worked for me...
