The demo is the same as the full game minus access to some units. There is a large 2.0 update currently in testing though and coming soon which will change a bunch of stuff.

What units is it missing?

@directed evolution - Steam BCoF demo version is not time-limited, allows to play with owners and non-owners, gives access to all game modes and allows you to play/customize the enlisted, officers and colour bearer of the 13th Virginia Regiment (Confederate) and 20th Maine Regiment (Union).

It does. I will give the game a go. Nothing to lose. I appreciate any game like this. Love war of rights. Holdfast though misses the point without formations for me. Warband napoleon was too old. This might be middle ground.

Yes it is best to just give the demo a spin. Oh and I forgot if there are cannon around (depending on the server setting) you can also operate those (i.e. load/reload, aim, fire, etc), same goes for using shovels, pickaxes and felling axes - you are also able to use them (if they are available from a crate and/or can be picked up from a fallen soldier). Also you can participate in events (for example my clan is running an Engineer centered event tomorrow evening).
