Original music where?

Remake's great. New music is well done.
But you cannot replace nostalgia, no matter how hard you try.

Give us old soundtrack please.

Hello, it is possible to use the old soundtrack -- if you prefer it -- via the Bug Fix Mod Pack.

One of the mods we've made allows the loading of custom music, which overrides any of the remake music files. For obvious legal reasons, the mod pack does not include any OG Pharaoh music files: you need to source them yourself from your own legally obtained OG Pharaoh installation.

Instructions on how to download the mod pack can be found here: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1351080/discussions/0/6382252647763840792/

Feel free to reach out on the Nexus Mods' posts page or on the official Pharaoh ANE discord server if you need guidance with getting the mod pack up and running! :)

Thank you, I will do that.
Strange that with the original Pharaoh IP they didn't give you the soundtrack as well, seeing it was made specifically for that game.

Its quite likely that the copyright for the OG music remains with Keith Zizza and Henry Beckett, and wouldn't have directly transferred to Activision's control when they bought the Impressions Games' series rights. When Activision bought Vivendi, who in turn bought Sierra, it probably only related to the IP of the games and not any source code, assets or the like.

I don't mind the Louis Godart remake personally, though some of the tracks are just a bit too hard to make out. Most of that being down to the use of real instruments by Louis in the remake, compared to the synethiser that would have been used by Keith back in the day, alongside a couple of instruments designed to sound like it would have been used in Ancient Egypt.

A lot of people have been asking for the remake soundtrack to be made available as a DLC. It has never happened, probably due to licensing restrictions, however the OST for PANE is freely available on YouTube and hasn't been removed by anyone at Dotemu, which tells its own story in the main lol.

Hello, if you are using the Bug Fix Mod Pack and have followed the instructions for how to load the OG music files [see the mod packs’ release notes for how to do this, they are linked in the steam thread], then yes the original soundtrack will work in Pharaoh A New Era.
Hey mate - thanks for the help.

From the instructions:
"Custom Music (Optional) (PANECustomMusic.dll)
Allows overriding music files to use custom ones. Create a folder named Music under <Pharaoh installation folder>\ModResources and place the music files from the original game into this folder. The files that are overridden here will be played instead of the default game music packaged in Pharaoh: A New Era."

This does not work - instead I navigated to the discord page for the MOD: Custom Music and read this:

You need create "Music" folder inside Pharaoh A New Era\Pharaoh_Data path, final path will look like this:
Pharaoh A New Era\Pharaoh_Data\Music
Supported formats: mp3 or wav
Expected file names:

When access the original OST, not all the files listed above are there the Music folder, so I transferred the ones that were..

However, this still does not work. The new music still plays.

Has anyone actually got this to work yet ?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for flagging some inconsistencies with the instructions, I'll make sure those are updated by InvisibleArrow. Its worth noting that a lot of mods were made at different times, so the instructions you read were based on how modding was done at the time that mod was made, but obviously more and more mods have been made so we changed the structure a bit (for simplicity), just forgot to update the instructions.

The music files should be placed in a folder called Music, which should exist under the ModResources folder you've mentioned above. The standard ZIP should already have a ModResources folder that contains four subfolders, one being the Music folder, so you'd just need to move the music to that subfolder.

The mention about Pharaoh_Data is outdated, but we've just not updated that message to point people to the correct path.

Regarding some tracks, the following are not part of the OG list, so cannot be replaced by anything:
- Archaic Part 1 (and Part 2)
- Middle Kingdom
- Mission_1
- Mission_2
- Mission_3
- Mission_End
- New Kingdom
- Old Kingdom
- Win Game Part 1 (and Part 2)

Mission_1, Mission_2 and Mission_3 are not actually used in-game: they are muxed with voice lines for the briefings, so are not provided separately (you can technically replace them if you find the Lost Tracks download, but they aren't going to get played in game anyway)

M-SRF 1-4, SSTJ 1-4 and WAJ 1-3 are split up versions of the original track. Simply rename the associated MP3 so that they have a number 1 at the end (eg M-SRF 1.mp3) to ensure the OG tracks are played. In a redux campaign thats being worked on by modders, M-SRF 2-4/SSTJ 2-4/WAJ 2-3 will not be used to avoid this issue.
