TL;DR:
This is a good old classic. And you must buy it TWICE! One here on Steam and one on GOG, the second so you can play it offline, since Steam won't let you play it offline without the damn launchers/DRM. But if you're okay using Steam, then that's fine. Get it on sale from here or other Keys Store, that are frequent and cheap when on sale.

Summary:
Previously played this on my PS2. I remembered that this was bundled with Hitman: Silent Assassin back in my days, which is cool, I guess. This is also IOI only games with EA, at least until 2020 when they bought the rights that is.

You play as Christopher Stone, a plumber turned Freedom fighters who must retake New York from the Soviets. Basically, RED DAWN.

You fight the Commies with the Pistol, Assault rifles, Molotov Cocktails, Rocket Launchers, etc...it's a Shooter game. But this times, it is team based. You can lead two and later more Resistance into your squad members to help fight off the commies with the objective. The more your squad, the more powerful you are in the fight. Your success will be reported through the Soviets Television propaganda.

This game is NOT A REMASTER, but an Enhanced Port that optimize through modern system. Basically it supports Widescreen now, which is great, since the retail release is just no good with the nemesis2000 patch and dgVodoo in the mix. Which is how kind of like Stubbs the Zombies, this is the most polished RE-PORTED/RE-RELEASED versions, which I'm kind of glad that IOI did it.

The cons are the game lacks the native controller support, which maybe IOI kind of forgot because how old this game is. You can use the Steam Input/Big Picture mode, but it's not great. The game has no achievements, which is a bit of mixed for me. While I like achievements, some of this game completion is just absurd! I could imagine that the only impossible things are completing the objective without any squad. I tried, but I died. So, whoever doing that, you're an absolute psychopath! So yeah, maybe it is okay without achievements. But forgetting controllers??? The Steam Deck users will suffers due to their requirement to map everything like an a$$h0le thanks to IOI forgetting it.

The game is good. No doubt. But for those that missed the nostalgia by playing it through consoles, you're gonna have to use your K+M to revisit this, which takes me about 12 minutes to understand personally.

The game is often on sale, but I always forgotten it, It got even cheaper when Wario64 on Twitter/X made the announcements much better than the Steam Wishlist. And it's frequent with keys on this game for some reason. So I dunno? Maybe IOI will put it for FREE on Epic Games? Who knows? But you gotta own this twice/three times! One is in your old PS2, one is for Steam and one is on GOG. The reason why is...DRM-FREE. So you can play it offline without have to use the damn launchers. But if you're okay with it, then that's fine.

This game was one of the most responsible for shaping my childhood. I cant even fathom the hours i put into this game as a young kid. Even now as a 30 year old adult, I own 2 copies of it on gamecube (just in case) and had to buy it immediately on Steam when I saw it available.
It could just be rose-tinted goggles but I truly feel as though this game still holds up even 20 years later.
Sure the shooting can be completely jank at times because of the bullets coming "from screen",but the AI for its time is solid. Graphics Solid. Soundtrack Incredible. Gameplay beyond solid. I love the feeling of progression as well. At first youre just a plumber and the next thing you know you are the leader of the rebellion that all of the Freedom Fighters respect. I doubt it will ever happen but a remaster or even a FF2 would be amazing. I have yet to play any other video game where you command troops similar to this game. It is truly one of a kind.
