Rerun Event Battles Kinda' Suck?
I've only been playing this game for a short while now, and while some reviews and feedback said that the combat was shallow, playing it gave me the impression there was SOME level of depth in using certain characters, supporters and skills to succeed and progress. However, the normal/hard difficulties of the Invitation from the Unknown event is just plain terrible. No matter who or what I choose to fight with in those combat sequences, the whole fight is just a swarm of enemies stun-locking me with hit-scan attacks , so I find myself desperately mashing away spacebar until I break free every few nanoseconds, and relying exclusively on the Supporter skill to do any substantial damage to the enemies. None of the other quests from the story mode or prior events have remotely felt this terrible. What is this fresh hell?

That is normal. You can play a ranged character and have fun, or play a melee character and get stun locked all the time that the AI doesn't feel pity for you and walk into a corner instead. (The walk into corner AI was some kind of change a year or two ago to make melee less miserable).

Most of the issues are solved by picking a character that has super armors so you can struggle through the hits, or getting the upgrades to be strong enough to just wipe everything out before they gang up on you.

I think the event I tend to hate the most is the halloween one with ghosts who just love to stun lock you all day.
This event is bent due to another thing. I use melee characters all the time and I don't get stunlocked, it's a matter of the right skills. Senjinka and Koujinka for Asagi for instance and Hypnosis Seal and Wicked Slasher for Oboro, with supporters set to add hypnosis to Wicked Slasher. This pretty much annihilates the regular opposition.

What I take issue with is King of the Death Wraiths in Bonus Section, stage 3. He's completely bent, just like Yuphie and Sophie in some other events, because he can pretty much outregenerate anything I throw at him. Asagi is LV87 with SP all maxed out, Oboro is 85 and getting close. He shouldn't be that difficult. IDK how people are completing this because it honestly boggles my mind. What am I missing there?! This is insane, a big middle finger to GG for implementing that mechanic. If I ever abandon the game, it's due to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like this... or Arena Tower LV75 (and some previous floors) with three taimanin-type chars at once. Like, GG - you can play this yourselves, guys. Honest. If a character with MAXED OUT everything dependent on SP, a LV60 UR weapon and 3 LV60 UR supporters isn't enough, it's not the player doing something wrong in my opinion, it's the developer.

Murasaki 3 green supporters -> tentacle mine it removes 75% of boss def
Tokiko 3 green -> Evil eye Clairvoyance probably 100% all def of boss (not sure)
Phantasma just stand near the boss to remove 20% of it's def

there are more but these are the most broken ones :)
Hey, thanks! This is an awesome hint. I'll definitely retry the harder stages once I beef up one of those chars.
Funny, I found this event to be one of the easiest.
I did the 3rd bonus stage pretty easy, my team was;
Level 85 Asagi
Taimanin Art: All Supporter Slots filled.
Senjinka: Extra effect due to Dawnbringer and main supporter is Protect for speed buff.
Rakusenka: All Protect Supporters set for all boosts.

Level 81 Sakura
Dual Edge Flurry: All Supporter Slots filled.
Shadow Spin: Main Supporter is Protect for healing.
Shadow Cleave: All Protect Supporters for all boosts.

Level 83 Rin
Taimanin Art: Volt Sword: All Supporter Slots filled.
Chain Volt: All Assist Supporters for all boosts.
Volt Spin: Main Supporter is Assist for healing.
And another awesome hint. Thanks for this.

Guess I need to buff up just one more girl to have an effective team for things like this. I'll also see to that Rakusenka thing, perhaps it'll get me through other blockages I encounter.

The hard levels so far i could get 2 out of 3 stars with level 77 Asagi (failing at the hp part), but normal was quite easy. I used a level 72 Kirara for stages 1 to 4, with snow leopard fist, blossoming fog and taimanin art: frost skills, yomotsu-hegui and yasha sphere as weapons and protect supporters , with hebiko as main. Stage 5 was done with level 70 Saika, level 75 Shiranui and level 77 Asagi.

I beat normal with Tokiko since an event was ongoing. Just tacked on 3 random supporters, had some ranged mode skills, and spammed the attack button. Was really easy. (Character is level 75). I guess I probably got some def removal without being aware of it.

That said, I never bother with the bonus stages after hard, since I don't feel like they are worth my time. Just sponge mobs making it take too long to play.

Just fyi in case that event reruns, Yuphie and Sophie get a buff when the other twin dies. Just kill Yuphie first so she doesn't get the healing buff.
