My friend said if I leave a review on this game, and it gets 100 likes and 50 awards, he will buy me RTX 4060 and 50 cups of instant noodle. So, Imma leave this here.

Fun game to play with friends just for the heck of it. But if you are like me and were interested in the story and build up from the first game... don't bother. Very disappointing. Feels like a big waste of time and slap in the face.

Has a great story to it, graphics are beautiful at ultra settings

Scary but addicting - The Forest is actually just an island infested with tribes of cannibalistic Andrew Tate clones beefing with packs of Subaru drivers over essentially nothing. They both constantly try to destroy your property and the Tate clones want to eat you, despite abundant wildlife. Both climb trees faster than squirrels. Little help from local law enforcement. Highly recommend.

this game is very fun and theres alot to discover and the gameplay is just amazing

If you liked the first game, then sure, you will probably like this one, because it's pretty much the same game. They took the first game's engine, created a new map using the same principles as the first game and one guy was like "hey I have a cool base building idea" so they said "yea yea whatever makes you happy, just do it".

The new base building is cool, however, similarly to the first game, it is completely useless. We spent the first 6 hours building a base, constantly getting raided by harder and harder mutants. Once it was complete we left to explore caves and never returned again. The caves contain absolutely everything you need for survival, your backpack holds multiple of every item in the game and it also allows you to craft anything. In fact, you get absolutely showered in loot in the caves. The only activity a base allows you to do is sleep, which can be achieved using a tarp and a single stick. Not to mention how time taking and tedious it is to build even a simple cabin. It's strange because on one hand the game tries to be this realistic survival simulator with it's building and minimalistic UI elements but on the other hand you hop into your golf cart, oneshot every enemy in your way, climb rocks at an 85 degree angle and proceed to find 52 cans of cat food in a random cave alongside 86 cans of energy drink with a stick that is on fire and lasts forever.

Graphics were also reworked but due to poor optimisation you will have to lower the settings anyway. While it's cool to see the tree break as you hit it with an axe, it is not ground breaking technology and shockingly, doesn't turn this into a good or a fun game. The caves might have better graphics but in terms of structure they are exactly the same as in the first game. On the other hand the bunkers are pretty cool.

The combat is still as boring and uninspired as in the first game.
The enemy:
- mutants on steroids that can cancel whatever animation they are currently doing to read the input from your mouse/keyboard and frame perfectly switch to the animation of dodging your attack
- bone armour completely blocks a full fire axe swing
- doesn't get staggered after being hit multiple times in the face by the aforementioned fire axe
- doesn't care about a spear going straight through it's chest or one of it's legs, still continues running around like a monkey on steroids. Unless a limb is missing they don't care about being damaged.
You:
- doesn't have the ability to dodge attacks, can only awkwardly botwalk around
- flails axe around with a single hand
- guns deal less damage than axes (commonly referred to as "balancing")
- hit by anything => knocked straight down to the ground
- allowed to use the golf cart which instantly decapitates any mutant and is the most effective weapon of war
Overall the combat model is the most basic combat you can imagine. You have LMB for hit and RMB for block. 98% of your encounters end up with you walking circles around the enemy while spamming LMB.

The story revolves around billionaires, Epstein island, mutants, wendigos, aliens, dimensional travel, a cube, a 3 legged teen in a swimsuit that you can see her nipples through when it rains, Kelvin and maybe 10 whole lines of dialogue. To say the story is bad would be an understatement. Amateur level animations and cutscenes really don't help either. The first game had a better story which also had much more mystery behind it and was more interesting.

- missing QoL features such as auto save, the ability to properly zoom on the map and move it around or the ability to map out caves
- bats screeching and skeletons falling down from the ceiling for the 15th time does not make this a horror game
- it's still early access judging by the number of bugs and just how incomplete the whole experience feels
- every object weighs like 10 grams which makes every aspect of the game feel extremely jank
- While the golf cart is cool, it also turns exploration into driving for 15 minutes until you get where you are trying to go. The forest that contains 3 animals in total is not interesting for the 1+ hour of driving you do in order to finish the game. Playing hardbass on full volume while decapitating mutants using your golf cart is cool tho. The island should have just been smaller with no vehicles.
- maybe we're just deaf but the enemies (no matter how big) don't seem to make any noise as they run up to you from the back
- constant enemy attacks during the night
- can't turn off animations for such tasks as skinning animals/enemies

Overall, I'm hating because this game has so much potential, and it's all wasted because they were too lazy to design and build this game from the ground up. Instead, they decided to copy paste the first game and change some things to turn it into a new game.

I know it's an indie game studio, but come on, The Forest was very popular so i doubt they were low on money. Besides, indie devs can create amazing games ... if they try.

The world could have been more interesting considering what the story of the island actually is. We could have gotten more inspired combat against enemies that behave at least somewhat realistic. Maybe upgrading for both your gear and stuff like the golf cart (find golf cart -> bring a battery -> 3D print holds and attach the solar panel to the top, etc.). There could have been big caves and big cave entrances. They could have been branched out with many paths and ways to explore and we could have gotten ways to map them out, throw our own ropes down, place floodlights, etc. What's scarier than swimming through an underwater cave, barely seeing 2m in front of you, lost, oxygen running out...? Some caves could have been filled with flesh and blood and could have been like breeding grounds, or just something that isn't a bunch of rock and a hanging spine from the ceiling. Maybe even a voxel based terrain that would allow for terraforming.

I could keep going, but you get the idea. There were so many interesting and cool things they could have done, but they just recreated "The Forest" with better textures and it's a damn shame.

Missed a big opportunity not naming the cannibal-stew "Stu". Other than that, phenomenal game, especially with friends. The building and tree chopping is fun, and there's a consistent challenge that makes survival a near run thing.
