But if you intention was to play MP, you will need the 227 update as the majority of servers use mods that are built with 227's modding features.
Outside of that, TL DR 227 should:
Main
- Improve performance
- Support newer renderers. Unreal was designed mostly around the Voodoo 3dfx Glide renderer which didn't have a very long lifespan, so a while after Unreal's release they provided other renderers such as D3d and OpenGL. The newest renderer that comes with 227 is called XOpenGL and seems to work the best on modern systems, but isn't great if you have an AMD GPU
Modding (doesn't apply to stock gameplay unless using mods)
- Better mapping support. Unreal Editor is updated from UEd 1 to UEd 2.2
- Support for Dynamic Arrays in mod code
- Skeletal mesh support, doesn't change the stock models but allows the modder to import custom models an animations in skeletal format
- Static mesh support for custom maps
- Unreal Engine 2 style terrain tools
- Sublevels
- Parallax skyboxes
- Dynamic Coronas
- Better texture support and features
- PhysX support for rigidbodies
- Support for Open voids similar to IDtech, Source and Goldsrc mapping. (additive world)
- Dynamic Zone volumes that permit raising water and such
- Alot more.
I couldn't find a clear message about this or a youtube video showing the differences and if I needed it or not.. not so clear and direct.
Maybe I should try 227j instead of 227i.. I see there are more options.. in particular I hope to find Italian language (I'm ok with English and I prefer the original, but my girlfriend doesn't) and the dimension of texts because I have just two options and one is difficult to read while the other take all the screen.
Oh yeah that's another thing too, 227i (and i think j and k) support alot more localizations! I can't remember if Italian is supported but I think that's probably the case!
