After spending nearly 200 hours playing The Outlast Trials, I think it’s finally time to share my thoughts. To put it simply, the first 50-60 hours were some of the most fun I’ve had with a game in a very long time - and this was during its Early Access phase. The joy I felt during that time is honestly hard to describe. The atmosphere, the eerie ambience, the graphics, and the mechanics all came together so perfectly. It was an unforgettable experience, and I couldn’t get enough of it.

However, after those initial hours, the game started to feel repetitive. By the time I reached around 160 hours, I’d go as far as to say it became boring. I know and truly appreciate how much effort the Red Barrels team puts into developing and updating the game, but for me, it still doesn’t quite hit the mark.

One of the main issues for me is the behavior of the enemies (or "entities") that chase you during the trials. At first, they were terrifying and kept me on edge, but over time, they became predictable. That sense of dread and uneasiness - one of the key elements that made Outlast so special - just faded away. I feel like there’s so much potential for adding new mechanics that could make the game feel more realistic, dynamic, and engaging in the long run. Who knows? Maybe Red Barrels will surprise us one day with a massive, game-changing update that introduces fresh mechanics rather than smaller updates focused on skins, emotes, or lobby mini-games.

That being said, I would recommend this game to anyone who’s a fan of the original Outlast games. The experience you’ll get from playing The Outlast Trials - especially in those first 50-60 hours - is absolutely worth it. Just keep in mind that, for most players, the game might start to feel repetitive after the 60-70 hour mark. But hey, who knows? Maybe Red Barrels will one day drop a grand, major update that even people like me - who’ve burned through everything the game currently offers - will find satisfying. Fingers crossed! :D
