I'd try maybe right clicking the game in the library and untick the "Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for Toodee and Topdee".
You can also try deleting the save files in %LocalAppData%\ToodeeAndTopdee
Just delete the entire folder.

none of those work. for some reason even after disabling steam cloud saves, i still get that same message.

the closest thing to new information i have is:
i tried running it as administrator and got the error "the procedure entry point WinHttpWebSocketRecieve could not be located in the dynamic link library WINHTTP.dll"
but i don't know what that means to be honest.

I'm actually having the exact same issue, and trying to open the game directly from the local files results in the same error, too. Maybe it's a Windows 7 thing?

Yeah, the game doesn't work on Windows 7 anymore (I changed the minimum requirements to Win 10)
I'm super sorry! If you don't have access to Win 10 probably your best bet is to refund the game. :(

Steam refuses to refund the game. I want to ask "WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE THIS?!" but you must have had your reasons. In any case, I decided to point this out before I contacted my local government with a complaint about this. I would not be surprised is somebody's ass was on the line for this in the end, and by the way modern corps are operating - it will not be Steam. My suggestion is for you to contact Steam in an effort to either fix this issue or help people get their money back. Good day.

As to "WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE THIS" - I didn't change this on purpose, I've used Game Maker Studio 2 to develop this game and I updated the engine, and when I patched the game I used the newer version of the engine. I had no idea it doesn't work anymore on Win7 until this post, and after I researched a bit I've found out that in the newer version of Game Maker Win7 is no longer supported so I changed in the game description the minimum requirement section to reflect the new situation.

Regarding Steam not refunding the game- I'd recommend trying to contact Steam support and explain your situation and I'm sure they'll give you a refund.

No, I'm on Windows 10, 32GB RAM, about 4TB memory, Radeon RX 5700XT, AND Ryzen 7 5800X.

I uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, as well as verified integrity a few times. I'm really looking forward to playing this game but it crashes immediately.

Still having the same issue, looks like the game is running in the background but never properly launches. Have yet to enjoy the game.

I unfortunately recommend that you refund the game if it doesn't work :(

No idea what happen in the year since I've last tried, other than OS and GPU updates but I was finally able to play the game. It's great!
