Are you playing with a controller or with mouse + keyboard? is it possible you have a controller connected that is interfering?
Normally you should be able to open the in-game menu/pause screen with ESC, does that now work? There's also a "hamburger button" in the top right corner that you can click on to pause the game. Finally, in some (very few) cut-scene sequences you cannot pause.
It seems like the game is stuck for you in the chapter in Sune's apartment, I'd try quitting the game and re-opening it. The game autosaves so you0d have to play over only a few exchanges.
The only instance where there's small text that is unreadable is intentional, Sune is speaking in such a low voice that Nuki cannot hear him. I'm sorry that sequence was unpleasant and made the game less accessible for you, I just wanted to reassure you that you wouldn't have missed content.
Please let me know about the game being stuck if you can manage with the above recommendations and sorry again for the issue!
I'm using an Xbox controller but I also tried pressing ESC on my computer and nothing happened.
I also didn't see anything on the screen I could interact with to bring up settings.
Once I reloaded the game and began the chapter from the beginning it didn't freeze again, but I couldn't find any buttons for pausing or anything.
When the text is tiny, it's moving around the screen slightly too, is that intentional?
I like the interactive nature of this, but it initially looked like a red smudge, it really was very, very small, and not where the rest of text normally is.
Is it possible to edit it in the future, so that you can manually click on the small text to enlarge it slightly? This might be challenging but could emulate the feeling of trying to strain your ears to pick up words.
Or have a menu option to switch out small text with slightly greyed out text of normal size? It could still indicate a faint voice without being possible to miss if you have visual disorders.
I try to keep an eye on accessibility for games in my reviews, especially as a disabled person, because I find sometimes we don't have accessibility charts enabling us to pick up games we know we can play. And also in the hopes devs can make some changes too.
If it's not possible to change, it'd be good if it were noted somewhere on the description if possible.
I really appreciate that you listed accurate and detailed trigger warnings, which is a specific accessibility point many games miss. But other types of accessibility, like visual and audio accessibility, is good to indicate too; although less common.
Anyway I hope some of this helps.
I took screen shots during one texting segment, and during the 'treatment/diagnosis' segment.
I also checked other players screen shots to see if it depended on the segment of the game you were playing. I could see some of the same unedited pictures, where some had the button on the top right, and others didn't.
Does this disappear when using a controller?
I can test it out without later, but as I'm feeling unwell right now, I won't be able to do it today!
