I think Astra Militarum is better than leazy DLC like Tau(Breachers, Fire wariors, Pathfinders look the same, lack of Kroots and Vespids) or Demons of Khorne(less units, Its the one DLC i didnt buy). Each unit looks differently have unique skill. Guards with Bayonets is one not useful unit. Best DLC from years, from Orks. I wish we got more such DLCs for all other WHR40K factions.
Its point of start for:
chaos cultists(heretic IG),
gnsteler cult
or ork lotas(they tend to tweak IG tanks a loot).
Posible alies for all other Empire forces(Space Marines, Sister of Battle, Mechanicum, Custodes, Imperial Knights).
I'm hoping they can deliver - if not, then Demons of Khorne will have been my last purchase for Battlesector.
Addition of Guard to the game improved it merely by the virtue of them being in the pool of possible foes/neutrals. IG army has a different feel to others and its simply refreshing to face them now.
And as a cherry on top, as far as I know, Guard appear in the game whether you paid for DLC or not.
Faction itself, imho, is not there yet in terms of balance. Playable, but not all that well rounded. To me, it's at the low tier of power, but I've had very memorable games in a long while with them becuase of how hard you have to work to win with them.
It might change, I think there's been enough feedback about it that people want actual lasguns
Not unless those people can convince GW directly, and I'll be shocked if that happens. Perhaps there was a point in development when Slitherine could have picked their own effects, kept quiet and gotten away with it, but that's long past. It's out of their hands now.
yeah i dont get it , came out in 2021 could have any effect they wanted. 2023 rogue trader has the red beam effect in it just like dow, looks quite nice, and more modern and makes a cool sound. Sadly i didnt like the game but the sound was up to par.
Dark tide also has a cool sound and beam effect for the lasgun weapons.
GW already gives an out in the same article the devs link to by pointing out different patterns can appear and behave differently.
I wish this thread would be more around this rather than continuing the optical conversation to death. I get people play the game for different reasons; some for lore and sensory enjoyment, others for gameplay and sensory enjoyment, some only for tactics, some only for the setting, etc.
On the balance convo, for me, I agree they are going into the lower-middle end of the power pool, I think something I'd like to see changed is that battleline buffs not persisting through the enemy turn, which hurts the Commissar probably the most, but makes all HQ units a bit less valuable at least. In StratCom in PvP at least, I think there are some advantages to being able to bring massive armies that are hard to clear and push forward into. I think I see the idea behind them and the difficulty of just buffing infantry, but I do think there will be some balance changes in the future.
*All opinions still subject to change lol
Overall I think, mechanically, its a good addition, especially as the first DLC from the new team.
