When I start the game up, every option works except for "Play". When I try to select "Play", the game crashes. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

I wanted to come back to this game for a little nostalgia trip and use some new songs I've found but when I loaded up the game for a long time I was hit with a solid 30FPS. At the time I just brushed it aside and just wanted to play the game, but while in the middle of a run it was unbearable and had to stop. I looked in the guides for how to increase my FPS to something that wasn't just 30 frames. Looked online for anything that would help increase my performance. Nothing. So now I'm asking for some help ...

When I try to play John Cage's 4'33", the game crashes while generating the track. I've tried it as an mp3 as well as an ogg, and it crashed both times. It's my own rendition produced in Audacity, could that be why? Do I need to download an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ version of it?...
