So on the house in the demo version I climbed up to the first floor roof with my long ladder.
Then I placed my only long ladder on the first story roof so I could access the second story roof.
I promptly fell off the first story roof.
Having only one long ladder I could not access the roof again.
Which in it's own way is a bemusingly familiar situation for me.
