Glad to see I'm not the only one who can't play

Been having the same issue for the second day now.

Appears to be back to normal now. 👍

No crashing here, the game simply doesn't continue after I click "Play"!
Some dots appear behind the Play button for a split second, and then disappear as if nothing happened.
These dots don't appear at all, and nothing happens at all upon clicking the button if I'm not connected to the internet. I assume it's trying to make a connection to some server, and failing.

The game worked perfectly fine for me a couple days ago, and nothing has changed here since.
The game does play when using the "beforewidescreen" beta, though!
Of course, no leaderboards there :(

It's nice to see that people have shared the same experience as I had. I wanted to give an update about the situation:

Today I loaded the game up and I was able to play it without any issues. I was connected to the internet. I hope the game will work for all of you again, whether by chance or through patches. If this happens again, I will return here to make another post.

im having the same issue like i can click play and thats it i can start a song but my keys wont work to move the ship :(

okay so i think i resolved it if u have background processes especially video players try closing them and running the game again. with youtubes new ad block thing its slowing computers down a lot and after closing all my tabs that play videos i was able to run the game normally! <3

I have the issue with my Windows Pro install. Windows Home is fine. Audiosurf 2 works fine across the board including my Linux installs (not even Wine allows this Audiosurf to get past QuestViewer (which is what causes issues on Wn Pro machines I'm guessing,

It's also not working for me. I'm not sure how to fix it. Clicking play gives three dots, then closing the game either through the exit button or task manager (or steam) results in the game hanging as an unkillable process in the background.

I tried the "beforewidescreen" branch - same thing.

I fixed it by downloading an ancient version through the Steam CLI. Downloaded a 2020 depot. Runs smoothly now.
