As for animals/monsters/aliens/humans/viruses/bacteria/spam/eggs/chips/beans/etc. that "you have to survive against", the devs have been pretty clear the game won't be going down that route, their vision for the game, particularly during the terraformation process, is entirely based around Player versus The Environment gameplay - mostly because there are plenty of other games in this same/similar genre that do include some kinds of action/combat/shooter gameplay elements, so not having any of that makes this game unique and stand out in the crowd.

Are there plenty of people in this games community that would like to see at least some kind of action/combat/shooter gameplay elements included?
Sure, of course there are.
- - -
Do I personally think the game would benefit from more action/combat/shooter gameplay elements?
Honestly, no, not really. I think the devs made the right choice by not going down that route.

That said, it would be quite interesting to hear other folks opinions on this though.
There are many other games in that genre if you want violence. PC is just you against the environment and yourself, I find that very refreshing
if you want this type go play ''Star Rupture'' this will give you what you want.
I don't want to engage in that kind of stuff all the time though, and the peaceful nature of Planet Crafter is a major part of the appeal for me. I had it wish listed during EA and back then the developers made it clear they had no intention of adding enemies to fight and I'm glad they've kept their word.
I don't think Planet Crafter would be the awesome game that it is if it included conflict of any sort other than with the nature of the world... there's literally hundreds and maybe even thousands of games out there that have already gone that route, I find the fact that the devs decided to buck this trend highly refreshing...
I mean, honestly, isn't there more than enough conflict out there already, both in games and in real life?
I get in the mood for this one when I feel like building and relaxing.
I'm with everyone else who says this game doesn't need combat. It has a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere focused on satisfaction with only the grim narrative weirdly clashing with it. Active danger and violence would clash even worse. More people would be put off by a game that couldn't decide what it wanted to be trying to be everything at once than it would pick up new players.
They might add them later in safari zones for hunting purposes but probably not until the first colony is completed and not near the colony
They would also likely add predators to keep the animal population balanced
Pure nightmare fuel... :P
As for right now we have Plankton, Bacteria, Butterflies, Bees, Silkworms, Frogs, Fish, and weird alien mammals (which are spawned not by having an ecosystem that organically leads to them but using animal food we produce.)
So hmm what eats some of the stuff that comes before them?
We are seriously missing so many pieces of the biodiversity of life here - I'd love to be able to make an eco-paradise for modern or ancient earth animals. Or have an entire ecosystem of unique animals that actually fit together.
Some of the life created might make companion animals, working animals, or yes even stuff we trap/hunt/fish for. And is okay if we get some of the starting material for these critters from the trade rocket.
Small boring animals such as worms, mice, etc tunnel through soil to make it more fertile, and then other animals eat them keeping the populations under control.
Yes birds evolved from dinos we also have a lab so we skip that step and make birds that eat insects, fish, small animals, and spread seeds.
I am totally open to a Dino world, or dino stage of our world , if you want to give us that option, but that feels like it leads to combat ;) I can also make stuff from myths and legends but again seems like its off theme. (Would make a fun mod or maybe extra planet though - Revive the Unicorn, Make a home for the last of the Yeti, planet of myths and legends type stuff)
In all seriousness, if my job is to make an ecosystem I'm not going to intentionally engineer things that are likely to kill me - so no great white shark, giant croc, or highly venomous stuff unless I royally screw up or we are exploring someone else's major mess - we just aren't dealing with super scary animals. Could they evolve over time and you need to occasionally go exterminate a group of animals that are evolving into a bit much - possibly but that doesn't have to mean hunting with a weapon.
Could there be a planet to visit where someone left a big mess behind if the devs wish - sure. It doesn't actually take weapons to get rid of a bioengineered monster - we could seal it into containment or change the environment to get rid of the scary stuff.
Maybe that means taking a planet *backwards* till it can no longer support higher life long enough for the monsters to die out then restart things. And maybe because of the dangerous plants/animals/bacteria you have to be super careful where you go till you accomplish this - so you are limited to a specific mountain top or protected area till you make this happen.
So forget potentially interesting edge cases - We make herbivores and non-scary carnivores to keep those populations under control and actually need to think about that balance.
We start raising small farm animals such as a duck or chicken for eggs, we have a goat or sheep for a new fabric source plus milk. And once in awhile our level 2 animal farm provides a bit of meat.
How about a companion animal (or robot) of some sort once your world is developed enough? You can send for your pet once you have a safe space for them on each moon and have built your puppy/kitty/etc a space travel suit/capsule or have one per world.
Might be nice though.
