Megadome
I unlocked the megadome and was reading about it on the wiki. I'm trying to determine what benefit it would be to make one. I see that other, smaller structures can be put into it, but since it's round, there would be a huge amount of spatial waste. Unless someone has discovered a nice arrangement that has a benefit.

They are great to look at, and I enjoyed exploring all the facilities on Selena, but I'm not seeing a real need for them at this point. Any ideas?

I have finished Selenea twice and never built a dome. I didn't see a need either.
Agreed... I finished Selena and build a dome only to give it a try (as the older domes on Selena really look great). But - I am dissapointed.. I don't see the point in this building, cause of the rounds,,, I left it there.. with a fountain in the middle...
I would be happier, if we could drive the big rovers there.. or fly the small jets..

I totally agree with that! The big rovers, the small jets, and the water jetboats in one of the domes on Selena. Those big rovers would be really useful in transporting materials early to mid game. They could be a Rover T2.

The small jets or the helicopters (on salvage missions through the portal) would be great for getting a planet-wide overview from the air.

The water jetboats would just be fun. :)

Yeah - forgot these cuties.. searched rather long in the domes for some kind of (energy)switch for them.. :)

Yes, since collision on the big domes is different I have been trying to find a use for them.
On Aqualis I buried the base in the ground so that dirt inside allowed use of all the inside.
Place a teleporter in the center first, place the dome and then use another teleporter to get inside.
Made a great beehive area to produce honey and larvae to send back to Prime.

Just thought of a really good use for the big rovers even in late game:
Right now, it takes a drone a couple of minutes to fly out to the obsidian mine, pick up 1 nugget, and a couple of minutes to fly back. Or, to be precise, 25 drones to retrieve 25 nuggets.

With the big rover, I could put a drone station at the ore site, drive the big rover to the site, spend a couple of minutes letting the drones fill-er-up, and drive back to base. The drones at the base would unload the rover in a minute or so. And it would be fun. :)

I assume you mean asteroid collision? If so, then you may be onto something. I may have to play with that and see what the noise level is inside the dome during an asteroid shower.

That's actually a very clever use of the megadome, good job.

Unfortunately we can't currently enable the Demand and Supply logistics tags on a device or storage unit at the same time, but presuming in some future timeline we have that ability, you'll just find your rover getting chased all over the map by two hordes of very determined drones... :D

Actually, yes we can. I have some T2 lockers with both the supply and demand enabled. You have to check the supply ALL first, then check the demand.

But to better explain my rover scenario:
1. Pull all 25 drones from the station at base.
2. Drive to the ore site.
3. Plug in 25 drones at site.
4. Turn on storage demand.
5. Wait for drones to fill up storage.
6. Pull all 25 drones from ore site station.
7. Drive back and plug them into home base station.
8. Change rover storage to supply.

I just had another idea for the current rover:
Build 2 rover stations, 1 at home base, 1 at ore site. Pull drones, teleport to ore site. Teleport rover to ore site station, load rover upgraded storage, then teleport me and rover back to home base. That, at least will cut down on drone travel time. :)

Nope , I meant collision as in you can bury its base in the ground below ground level and use the ground to place any item on that will allow it.
I've also built a large platform on the water and dropped the megadome down till the platforms are slightly above the regular floor level.
That lets you place anything that will go on platforms.

Interesting this should come up now - I just finished unlocking the megadome on my second go at upgrading an older save to include the moons and Humble. I'm going to have to go back to one or the other of the planets though, because I didn't think to unlock any of the furniture on my portal runs - and that's most of the furniture that can be placed in the megadomes, most of the old furniture just won't go at all.

I'm using the platforms-just-under-the-floor approach here, which requires the platform to be build first, (about the size of the center of the dome) then anything you want on it placed, then the megadome build on top, with the floor lowered just enough to cover the base...

I don't have much furniture yet, but it will come! Posters can be placed on many of the walls, too, if you're careful - a few won't go without issues, but most can be placed...

Morning, or at least it is here.
This is a daylight view of the Hive. You can see the only way in and out is via teleporter. Lets me place any soil based items anywhere.

But, if the doors are buried, how did you get the teleporter inside? 🤨
prtmh 9 Aug @ 7:57am
Place the teleporter first, then lower the dome down over it till the inside floor is below ground level.
Then teleport inside and move the inside teleporter where you want it to be .

Ah, didn't realize the floor would pass through anything. 👍
