Drone range maybe?
Suggestion for significant improvement (which might not be a huge effort to implement)

If drone stations had a range setting, which would set a distance from the drone station, outside of which drones would not respond to requests. Drone tasks are allocated by range first.
This wouldn't be a perfect system but would give the player considerably more control over drone behaviour. Priority settings are just not great (I think maybe because drones are allocated tasks in advance of being free - seems like that anyway)

Other possible change might be to allow allocating drones to particular supply sources, so the allocated drones only serve that supply/request source (chest, autocrafter, whatever). If this were implemented it would need another option to set this source to only user dedicated drones. This would give very fine control drones.
The current system doesn't work well, if you have multiple setups using drones that mostly need only short range transport but the setups are very distant from each other.

That's a cool idea. I want a T6 backpack that brings me supplies when I ask. Seems odd this isn't possible. Amazon has it, but the future doesn't.

build more drones!
25 T2 drones are enough to service mining and production even on a large map. On small ones, like moons or Humble, even T1 drones are enough. There are no problems with transportation in the game if you have enough drones.
But if drone stations have a maximum range, problems will arise.

i personally would like to have a suit module that delivers me materials for construction (placing a hologram of the building and drones deposit mats into it)

I've noticed my Prime planet, I have over 600 drones, various stations around the map supply inventories will be full, and STILL even with only about half of the drones listed as doing anything the destination for items will not show as incoming supplies (and some of these are NOT far, so it shouldn't be a distance issue, like aluminum to N side of lake.) Changing priority on supply AND/OR demand locations does not seem to help. I'm also wondering, is there a way to look at the map without it being covered in drones? I didn't realize that there doesn't seem to be an option to look with drones off since firing the rocket :( I cannot see my base, just drones.

Only way I know of to get around that (other than not sending up the rocket in the first place) would be to move your drone station away from your main base... but they would still occlude the new area when you look at the map, wherever you put them. Put the drone station somewhere boring where you won't need to look very often, I guess? :-)
Something like Factorio's drone bays having a separate logistics radius and networking radius. However, Factorio is a 2D game with a bird's eye view of the map and a single playable plane of existence. I don't think this would work very well in Planet Crafter.
