Early Access for Train Sim World 3 kicks off tomorrow (Friday, September 2nd), with launch hitting on Tuesday, September 6th. So we’ve collated as much as possible about both Early Access and Launch, from release times, to Progress Transfer. Please give it a read, as it has important information for all players.

Early Access times and release times

We’re all very excited for you to get your hands on Train Sim World 3 – for those of you who have pre-ordered the Standard or Deluxe Editions of the game, you’ll be able to play 96 hours (4 days) before anyone else on that platform. Below you’ll find the times we expect Early Access to go live on Friday, September 2nd.

We expect launch to follow the same timeframes as below, on Tuesday, September 6th.
Note: these times are subject to change, based on the platform owners activating on their respective platforms. If you need to update it to your time-zone, you can do so here.

PlayStation and Xbox: 09:00 UTC
Epic Games Store: 15:00 UTC
Steam: 17:00 UTC

Notes:

• Early Access is available for Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition pre-orders
  
• Only players who have purchased Deluxe Edition will receive access to the updated Spirit of Steam for Train Sim World 3 (anyone else receiving the free Spirit of Steam update will do so with release on the 6th September).
  
• Standard Edition for Xbox is not available, due to it being on GamePass on launch day

Preservation Crew Updates – Train Sim World 3

If you followed our latest Roadmap, you’ll know that the remaining Preservation Crew updates were in the process of being finished, to be rolled out on Train Sim World 3 first.

With the launch on September 6th, we can confirm that the remaining improvements will be going into game, including:

• New Bakerloo Timetable
  
• Peninsula Corridor Preservation Crew update [huge]
  
• Rhein-Ruhr Osten Preservation Crew update [medium]
  
• Oakville Subdivision Preservation Crew update [huge]

There will also be some small improvements to Spirit of Steam, including Fireman visibility, mineral wagons will now have the correct formations, Livery Designer substitution functionality for Gen9 platforms, and completion of the ‘Time For Scouse’ scenario.
These updates will also come to Train Sim World 2 players after the launch of Train Sim World 3 as they require testing within TSW2.

Pre-loading Train Sim World 3 for Consoles

If you’ve pre-ordered Train Sim World 3 for your console, you can reduce the amount of time needed to download the game on Early Access/Launch by pre-loading the game.
For PlayStation and Xbox, if you have automatic downloads enabled, this will happen automatically – if you don’t, you can enable this in your settings.

Update on Kassel-Würzburg

From the Kassel livestream a couple of weeks ago, we wanted to confirm some improvements to the route since you saw it:

• Blue glow when entering tunnels has been removed
  
• Lightning should no longer be present when in tunnels
  
• 500Hz LZB magnet now triggers outside Würzburg

Progress Transfer
Yesterday, we released an article confirming that progress between your Train Sim World 2 and Train Sim World 3 profiles can be transferred on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam from Early Access.
8th-gen and 9th-gen platforms

We’ve had a lot of questions about the differences in experience between 9th-generation (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S) and 8th-generation (PS4, Xbox One) platforms

We’ve been testing across all these platforms across the duration of Train Sim World 3’s development, in order to work out how to provide the best experience to players.
There will be some slight differences between your experiences due to the power and possibilities with the respective technology, but if you’ve been playing Train Sim World 2 these will be familiar to you already. These are summarised below.

• Train length will be limited to 100 wagons on 9th-gen and 50 wagons on 8th-gen
  
• Services and layers:
  
• Southeastern High Speed Extended – same number of playable and AI services
  
• Cajon Pass – same number of playable services, with shorter formations on 8th-gen (see above)
  
• Kassel-Würzburg – same number of playable and AI services
  
• 9th-gen players will experience better graphical performance
  
• 9th-gen players will have better game performance (both 8th and 9th-gen we are happy with performance for though)
  
• We will monitor your feedback over the Early Access window and make amendments if needed to ensure the best experience for you all.

Legacy Content (Preserved Collection) roll-out

Xbox, Xbox for Windows, Steam, and Epic will have all Train Sim World Compatible content (legacy content/Preserved Collection) available within 24 hours of the launch of Train Sim World 3 on September 6th. These may come in batches over this period, dependent on the platform you’re on, so keep your eyes peeled!
Despite discussing and planning the roll-out for 3 months, we’ve been informed by Sony this week that releasing all the routes within the planned and expected timeframe for PlayStation is not possible, so we’ll be operating a staggered release.
Sony will be releasing the legacy routes weekly, and from our perspective, we’ll be looking to prioritise Train Sim World 2 Core routes, content that has received a significant Preservation Crew update, and recent releases.
We’ll aim to provide a more detailed list of what we expect to release when next week, when Sony have finalised a revised roll-out plan with us.
Train Sim World 2 will not be available to purchase after the release of Train Sim World 3, but all existing Add-ons will continue to be purchasable, and are compatible with both TSW2 and TSW3.

Note: The only exception to this is the ‘New Journeys Expansion Add-on’, which will be available at a later date.

Early Access known issues list
As we move into Early Access, we wanted to make you aware of some areas we’re working on ahead of full release on September 2nd. These are all due to be fixed for launch, if not before.

• [Xbox One] [Kassel-Würzburg] – Northbound services from Würzburg may cause some crashes (this is fixed in the launch build)
  
• [PS4] [Kassel-Würzburg] – 3 collectibles unable to be collected on
  
• [PS4] [SEHS] – Improvements to Strood tunnel lighting
  
• [PS4] [SEHS] – Improvements to loco darkening when entering the first tunnel after St Pancras station
  
• [All platforms] [Cajon Pass] – ‘Shop Class’ scenario – train does not start after completing tutorial
  
• [PS4] [Cajon Pass] – Alerter on ES44C4 currently unable to reset when locomotive is stationary after Penalty brake application
  

The below fixes will arrive a little later.

• [Xbox on Windows] Train Sim World 3 core routes don’t have journey chapters
  
• [Xbox on Windows] Livery Designer missing some locomotives

If you do experience any other issues, please let us know by submitting a bug report (with the more detail the better!) to our Support team, or in our dedicated feedback forum(Available from tomorrow morning).

Add-ons Manager

In our August Roadmap article, we talked about our desire to bring Add-ons Manager to TSW2 before the launch of TSW3.
Whilst we’re in the final stages of testing, an issue arose in the most recent build, which has meant that this will now come after Train Sim World 3’s launch, for both games. We know it’s been a long time coming, but we want to make sure it does what it needs to. Thanks for your patience.

Whilst the Training Center will include all manner of useful tutorials (as well as there being route-specific tutorials), we’ve asked some of our favourite creators to help produce some too.
We’ll be updating this with the link to the Training Center playlist tomorrow morning, and there is a link to watch them in the game – we have everything from operating LZB, to operating heavy US freight locomotives. Give them a watch, and subscribe to your favourites!

The team have been hard at work over the past few weeks, and we’re happy to confirm that Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam players will be able to transfer their Train Sim World 2 progress over to their Train Sim World 3 game from Early Access this Friday (2nd September).

1. Open up Train Sim World 3
   
2. Log into your Dovetail Live Account
   
3. Select ‘Import Existing Profile’ when you first log in
   
4. Once this is done, on your first log-in you’ll be asked if you want to select ‘Beginner’ and go straight into the Training part of TSW3, or you can select ‘Experienced’ and jump straight to the menu if you’ve played before.
   
5. If you’d like to import your profile later on, you can – as shown on the images below.

Note: if you have two profiles of the same name, you won’t be able to import the Train Sim World 2 profile of the same name. If you find that is the case, just delete the Train Sim World 3 profile, and the old profile should be available to import.

Note: At this stage, Epic Games or Xbox for Windows (PC) players will not be able to transfer progress.

Over the coming weeks, we want to talk about and show you more from Train Sim World 3. We are creating a short series of dev-blogs that will give you more details and insights into the new features coming with Train Sim World 3, highlighting the hard work that’s gone into building them! This week we talk about the all-new Training Center, UI changes, and what’s happening to all the add-ons you currently own for Train Sim World 2. Read on to find out more and watch the dev-blog to hear from the Dovetail Games team:

A new place to learn

Operating a train is tough and the trains in Train Sim World 3 are as close to the real thing as we can get. This is why we have introduced the new Training Center, a safe environment where you’ll be able to learn how to drive the locomotives featured in Train Sim World 3. You will practice on a brand-new route, inspired by the Wildenwrath Test Track - albeit with our own scenery - and all Train Sim World 3 owners will have access to this. This route is ‘free-roam’ in nature and the first of its kind in Train Sim World 3 as you have complete freedom to drive round the test track, walk about the complex, or even just sit on a bench and soak up the atmosphere. Not to forget it even has ‘Off the Rails’ mode permanently enabled! For new players, Off the Rails mode allows you to drive any train on any route, free from restrictions such as electrification, era, even country!

Having this new ‘onboarding’ process will help new players get more enjoyment out of the different styles of locos available. The Training Center is the perfect place to learn without the pressures of signalling and other traffic on the line, giving you have the freedom to learn at your own pace. There are nine locos available included in the Standard Edition from the three routes, giving you a wide variety of driving experiences from the get-go in the Training Center.

Your Content

When we announced Train Sim World 3, we shared that your Train Sim World 2 collection would be coming with you when you make the jump to Train Sim World 3. On September 6th, you will no longer see Train Sim World 2 on your preferred platform store page, and you will only see Train Sim World 3, the new editions and most of the add-ons from Train Sim World history*. This doesn’t mean Train Sim World 2 will disappear from your library, it just means you won’t be able to purchase it in store. The three routes included in Train Sim World 2 (Bakerloo Line, Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen and Sand Patch Grade), as well as New Journeys Expansion will also be available to purchase separately shortly after launch, if you don't already own them. Going forward we are also removing the ‘Preservation Collection’ branding and introducing a new Train Sim World Compatible logo on previously released add-ons.

When you see the Train Sim World Compatible logo you will know that that particular add-on will work within Train Sim World 3. Plus, your favourite Train Sim World 2 routes can look forward to the brand-new dynamic weather system. Other new features such as the volumetric clouds and new lighting effects are exclusive to the Train Sim World 3 core routes and add-ons released after September 6th.

Looking further forward from Train Sim World 3 you will no longer be required to own a certain route in order to purchase a new loco add-on. With the Training Center in mind, we want players to have the freedom to practice with any train released after Train Sim World 3 has launched. We will be able to explain more on this in the future.

New UI

Train Sim World 3 will bring a refreshed UI built from scratch, making it much easier to jump into the action when you load up the game. The development team have made a whole host of changes including new search and filter functions, meaning you can search for the route or loco you want to experience by selecting different options such as regions, diesel, electric and more. You can also sort your collection based on newest-oldest, A-Z alphabetical and vice versa. However, your last played route/train will always be the first on the list, and second will be the newest add-on in your collection.

We also now give you the option to select your train first, then choose the route on which you would like to travel. As your collection grows this may yield more opportunities for you to use your favourite trains in more places.

If you’re having one of those days where you aren’t sure what route you want to explore you can try Train Sim World 3’s new quick-play mode. Pressing the quick play button randomly selects a scenario or service you haven't completed depending on the length of service you chose from the add-ons you have installed, this new mode could introduce you to a route that you own and haven’t explored before!

Previously the livery designer page was just an unsearchable list of text-only selections, now it has all the same search and filtering functions as per gameplay selection, and a visual representation of the rail vehicles you will be editing. Also, this can be found under the Creators Club button on the main menu, you no longer have to select a route in order to access the creation tools

The future of Train Sim World is coming. Get ready to master the machine and battle the elements on September 6th with Train Sim World 3, available on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Xbox Game Pass and Epic Games Store.
Train Sim World 3 features a brand-new dynamic weather system with volumetric skies, all powered by a new lighting system. Drive your loco through the extremes of weather such as heavy snow and thunderstorms! Standard Edition includes three route expansions, nine high-powered locomotives, including BNSF for the first time in Train Sim World, and much more.

Experience the thrill of 280km/h with the ICE 1 in Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel-Würzburg, Train Sim World’s longest route to date, conquer American mountains with the 4400-horsepower ES44C4 in Cajon Pass, and travel on Britain’s fastest train, the Class 395 ‘Javelin’, in an expanded Southeastern High Speed that now includes Ashford International and Dartford. Southeastern High Speed features a much-extended service pattern that includes dedicated timetables for the BR Class 465/9, new signalling (including approach control), new overhead lines, track re-laying, and improved scenery (including a fully-explorable Ebbsfleet station)

The Training Center is a new feature for Train Sim World 3, that allows you to learn how to drive the locomotives featured in the game on a route inspired by a real test track! All Train Sim World 3 players have access to this.

We understand that players from around the world want to play their favourite routes and locos. Loco add-ons released after Train Sim World 3 will no longer require you to own a certain route as a requirement. These add-ons will still have a “focus” route for which they have Scenarios and Services, but this decoupling means you’ll be able to purchase any loco add-on released after Train Sim World 3 and learn how to master it in the new Training Center before you take it out on to the tracks and in Creators Club.


Players will be able to choose from a variety of Train Sim World 3 editions, in addition to Train Sim World 3: Deluxe Edition and Train Sim World 3: Standard edition, but you will also be able to select from a range of Train Sim World 3 ‘Starter Packs’. These new editions will contain the brand-new Training Center and one route expansion (Cajon Pass, Southeastern High Speed, Kassel-Würzburg, and Spirit of Steam) meaning you can get right into the action mastering the locomotive you want, on the route you want.

As an additional bonus, players who already own Southeastern High Speed: St Pancras - Faversham Route Add-on and/or Spirit of Steam: Liverpool Lime Street - Crewe Add-on in Train Sim World 2 will receive the updated versions of these routes for free upon purchasing any copy of Train Sim World 3, including regional starter packs. Train Sim World 3 now has multiple ways to play and gives you the freedom to really customize your experience.


We will also be releasing ALL existing Train Sim World 2 compatible content at launch, so when you switch to Train Sim World 3 you will be able to play on all of the routes and locos you own from Train Sim World 2.

Today we're releasing a fix to the derailment issues we've seen across the game.
Initially we released a patch to help with derailments on Spirit of Steam and this has had an adverse knock-on effect to other areas of the game which was unintended, the patch today should fix and improve derailments and prevent these issues from happening.

This patch is expected to go live at 13:00 UTC (14:00 BST) on all platforms.

Core Improvements 

• Fixed an issue that caused derailments so you can stay on track with your experiences.

Please keep us updated if you experience any derailments after this update.

The update will download automatically for owners when it becomes available. Players should allow at least 24 hours after restarting Steam, EPIC Game Store, or their console for the update to appear and before contacting Customer Support.
