First half of the game: I AM SIR BRANTE, MAKER OF CHOICES, SHAPER OF DESTINY, WORLD-CHANGER!
Second half of the game: “Bide my time”… again… and again… oh look, I’m biding my time for the third time, what a thrill.

The writing? Fantastic. The worldbuilding? Chef’s kiss. But the “ready for action” mechanic? Absolutely cursed. Imagine pouring your heart into building this grand narrative, only to be told: “Sorry pal, promising your sister you’ll do something used up the same juice you needed to stop a revolution.” WHAT?!

So instead of guiding my knight through epic events, I became the world’s most reluctant wallflower, stuck in the corner sipping punch while history unfolded without me. By the end I wasn’t suffering with Sir Brante… I was suffering as the player.

10/10 writing, 2/10 fun when the game tells you can do nothing.

An excellent read. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the universe, and I look forward to reading the breadth of the stories available for Brante in other playthroughs. The story is let down somewhat by the game mechanics, as Sir Brante's life can become too gamey at times and you'll find yourself having to pick certain decisions you may not feel are appropriate. You need to do this to increase your character's abilities or standings as being even one point below the threshold for an story decision means you can't select it in the majority of cases and then the intended pathway you were travelling for Brante's story may be no longer possible. My first playthrough ended in true death unrelated to these mechanics, but the second playthrough ended in a restart as I found myself unable to proceed without changing a few decisions I made earlier on in the game. These complaints are very easy for myself to overlook in appreciation for the story being told. I would recommend anyone to go in blind on their first playthrough and then to go in aware of what the consequences of their decisions are.

Сюжет в данной игре абсолютно скучный, ничего неожиданного, никаких секретов и поворотов, которые бы вызывали желение пройти игру до конца хотя бы один раз. Мир игры совершенно дефолтный, только социальное неравенство было выкручено до предела. Все персонажи однобокие. Такое чувство, что в этом мире все только и думают, что о социальном неравенстве. Разница только в том, что кому-то оно нравится, а кому-то нет. Соответственно, личность каждого персонажа определяется исключительно его отношением к данному вопросу. Само неравенство выглядит максимально карикатурно. Очевидно, что создатели игры ни разу не открывали учебник истории. Любому здравомыслящему человеку очевидно, что подобное общество с идиотским устройством долго бы не просуществовало. Религия в данном мире хоть и играет значимую роль, но проработана очень поверхностно. Сами божества максимально безликие и не интересные.
Что касается игромеханической части, то тут всё ещё хуже. В начале игры можно совершать различные действия, прокачивать характеристики и т.д. Проблема только в том, что узнать, к чему в итоге это приведёт и какие характеристики понадобятся, заранее без гайда не получится. Под конец игры собственно игры как таковой и нет. У вас будет заблокирована большая часть выборов из-за недостатка характеристик, поскольку прокачать всё невозможно. Соответственно, игра будет уже играться сама. И если вам вдруг где-то чего-то не хватило, то вы проиграете. Сохранений в игре нет, поэтому придётся начинать заново, хотя, как мне кажется, эта недоигра не стоит таких усилий. В общем, игровой процесс заключается в "крутке казино", опять же, если вы не играете строго по гайду и не знаете, какие циферки вам будут нужны.
Ну и по визуальной части игра, мягко говоря, не огонь. Лица у всех уродливые. Всё чёрно-белое. Спрайты у персонажей присутствуют лишь по одному на каждого, что меньше, чем даже в самых дешёвых визуальных новеллах. Музыка в игре тоже не очень. Композиций мало, они постоянно повторяются, что быстро надоедает.
Таким образом, рекомендовать данную игру я могу только для ознакомления с тем, что в наше время считают "шедевром". Если в своей жизни вы читали что-либо сложнее инструкции к освежителю воздуха, то эта игра вам вряд ли понравится.

I didn't care for it. As pretty much all other negative reviews say, it's not really an RPG, and tends to railroad you toward certain events. To avoid these events you have to play as a schizophrenic in order to minmax certain stats, and mana points. This prevents you in developing a character with a concrete identity, as you slip between outright sociopath, and immaculate saint; which kinda goes against what the game promises. You're also intended to play through the game multiply times, but the game play is so tedious that this becomes discouraging. Case is point; late into the campaign I saved my family from a group thugs, placed guards outside my house to make sure that no other thugs would return, and the game even sent me an alert saying that my family survived the revolt. Near the very end of the campaign I find out that my whole family was torn apart by members of the revolt despite that A) I was leader of the revolt B) The guards I placed outside the house were members of said revolt C) Earlier game lore stated that Nobles who sided with the commoners during the revolt were spared D) The game told me my family survived. This is either an error that was overlooked by the Devs (this game was made by Slavs, so this is a firm possibility), or its just piss poor, illogical story telling. I know indie games are known for being logically inconsistent, but this is just bad. 3.5/10; Little life, mostly suffering.

Disappointing and underwhelming

One of the best games i´ve played. Extremely fun to read out loud and finish a completely different life.
