Have you tried climbing back up? I don't guarantee it'll work, but if it's a trigger on the way down, then you might be able to pick it up that way.

The option to climb back up is not there.

I'm having the same problem and it's so sad because the game has worked really well so far. And the only things you can do once the glitch happened is leave the barn and look at the things you were able to search before. Please let me know if there are any updates on it

I'm having the same problem,but i find a solution for this , frist load the last checkppoint.
when you climbup top again , attach the rope to motor. but don't puch it frist, told Chloe to
attach the hock to the trapdoor. then push the motor. then you can get in to the darkroom.

I think the key point is you need to told chole attach the hock to the trapdoor. when I use Max to attach the hock to the trapdoor, this bug will always happen.

I used Chloe to attach the hook to the trapdoor because that's what you're supposed to do and the bug always happens. I can't get passed the trapdoor. I've tried reloading and rewinding but nothing will work. And when I tried to have Max hook it instead I didn't have the option to climb back up to the top.

I used Chloe to attach the hook to the trapdoor because that's what you're supposed to do and the bug always happens. I can't get passed the trapdoor. Nevermind. I just did the opposite. So I'm assuming if it's bugged when you have Max hook the padlock, then you have to have Chloe do it and if it's bugged when you have Chloe do it, you have to have Max do it.

That's weird, I did not encounter this, it just worked. Maybe you upload your save game and I open the door for you, lol.

I suffered the same issue.
Eventually I resolved it by verifying the game files through steam and then playing the chapter on keyboard and mouse instead of controller.

I've had the same issue, no matter if I attached the hook with Max or Chloe so here's what I did to solve it:

After climbing up and attaching the hook to the motor/asking Chloe to attach the hook I climbed down one step, pulled the motor down so I could climb up again later, then climbed back to the ground, and back up and so on. Honestly i just messed around a little, rewinded here and there (because I also discovered that if you rewind after being teleported to the ground because of the bug to the point just before you ask chloe to attach the hook you teleport back up after the cutscene!! at least that happened once for me).
I think the thing that saved it in the end was that I just rewinded/climbed up and down until I could see Chloe kneeling in front of the chest again (after both hooks where attached and Max was upstairs) because after pushing the motor down one last time I could FINALLY open the hatch!! So my guess is that the problem might be Chloe standing around? (Because she still stands there when you get teleported to the ground, asking you to be careful etc.) Just try climbing up and down a few times, switch up the order in which you do things, maybe that helps! Sorry if that sounds convoluted as hell, I hope this bug gets fixed soon!!

I would like to give you the biggest thank you because i was so close to kicking in my computer/j but like seriously i was getting so frustrated and u saved me the biggest headache ever :D

Indeed, I finally had to use Chloe to tie the padlock. However I still got tp downstairs. But going back in time just before Chloe tied the padlock, I found myself at the top again. So I pulled the engine again and I was not tp.

Follow exactly this order to advance and solve the bug:

• Load the last checkpoint
  
• Clear the ground to make the secret door appear.
  
• Try to open the door
  
• Climb to the top of the barn
  
• Go back in time to return the engine to its original place.
  
• Hook the rope to the engine
  
• Ask Chloe to hook the rope to the padlock
  
• Push the engine

Following this exact order you will not be teleported to the ground, but you will still be at the top of the barn. Now all that's left for you to do is to go down and open the secret door.

Close the game, go back in and load the last checkpoint. The same thing happened to me and it was because I used Max to tie the rope to the padlock. It's a bit frustrating, but you're very close to all the great suspense in the story. Good luck!
