Yukikoi Melt

Yukikoi Melt

PSA before you buy this game
Yukikoi Melt is originally an R18 VN [vndb.org]

However, Steam - VN relationships have always been a rocky one, with some VNs being able to sell on Steam as is, while some others are only able to sell on Steam as all Ages Version (with a patch that you get outside Steam to restore content). This kind of All Ages version without patch usually tends to be common route, heroine routes, implied adult scenes and fade to black, etc etc.

In the case of Yukikoi Melt, this version on Steam is supposed to be an All Ages version. But with a lot of butchering. Saw it being mentioned in a thread on r/visualnovels

Frontwing has gutted almost the entire common route and maybe even other routes except for Taruhi for the All Ages version on steam... Applying the 18+ patch restores almost everything back perfectly.. I guess they decided to play it very safe after what happened with Loca Love and follow the Koikatsu approach

The fact that the steam store page only has Taruhi's screenshots and no other heroines is proof of that... or it may be a bug but that is highly unlikely ..

So for all those who wanna read yukimel.. 18+ patch is a must to get the complete experience otherwise you will be missing out on a huge chunk of the VN

Direct link for patch from JAST [jastusa.com]if you're looking for it. It's free at the moment.

This situation probably happened because Frontwing has had a previous VN they wanted to put on Steam; Loca Love: Commuting Crush, but it got delisted.. Probably want to avoid another banhammer.

I just find it sad that they have to butcher the game to meet Steam's vague "standards". Even more sad is you'll always know that there's gonna be a good chunk of people out there who aren't very Steam savvy who don't read discussions or look on social media etc, so they'll be completely unaware of a patch existing and be confused by missing content.

I long for a world where we don't have to go patch hunting for a Steam VN.

Well, at this point you get used to it lol

"almost"? you mean there's still some removed?

The 18+ patch restores all the content back to the original as well as common route and the routes of other heroines.. Back then i said almost is because i had not reached the character routes yet.. but now i can confirm that it restores everything back properly
There is a censored CG of usagi in the common route but i think that was meant to be there as a joke... All H scenes and everything else is uncensored.

I was sure they removed 18 content because they want to reach more audience.... there is tons of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ adult 3d games out on steam and western vns

That's not quite correct... Yes steam does allow 18+ content, but they don't allow it if the characters look under 18 (even if it says they are over 18). Pretty much most anime school girls look under 18.

That's the problem with all of this, it's all up to interpretation. As per Steam's 2018 update policy https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/games/593110/announcements/detail/1666776116200553082, "With that principle in mind, we've decided that the right approach is to allow everything onto the Steam Store, except for things that we decide are illegal, or straight up trolling."

So Steam reviewers can take the law whichever way they please, and if they so happen to hate a VN, they can just ban it with no issue at all. There's no one looking over their shoulder, keeping them in check and making sure they're giving it a fair treatment.

At this point, every VN on Steam is liable to follow the approach Frontwing took for this title to get on Steam because they've added a new clause to that https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EaigwkqXkAUz_FR?format=jpg&name=small you can't resubmit a game anymore after it's been banned, so taking any risk at all is liable to get you one-shot banned with no chance of another shot, also contrary to the above 2018 update "We'll still continue to perform technical evaluations of submissions, rejecting games that don't pass until their issues have been resolved."

So if you like your VN's, and would like to see them keep coming to Steam, be vocal about it and let them know that something has to change. Either clear guidelines, or a rollback to before 2018 will do the trick.

In all honesty, I wish steam would just quit it. They're not the morals police. We're all adults here, and if you aren't an adult then you shouldn't be buying 18+ content to begin with. And anyways, isn't that what the adult filter on steam was made for in the first place? Just release the all ages version, and put a separate patch for the adult content like a lot of games do. :rena_al:

I don't even think we need to read the rest at this point. Like why even bother releasing to Steam at that point? Common route too out of all things, just damn.

to the two guys above me:

to be fair to steam, they probably want nothing more than just be a store and not go through all this BS. however, and this is a big however, steam has eyes from all directions. that includes the moralpolice, religious wannabes, and the other BS bandwagon who are all "think of the chillunz" and that nonsense. and they say the squeaky wheel always gets the grease. the stupid government listens to these unemployed keyboard warriors and this is the ending we get.
