EU/CIS is probably the most populated region in KF1, but it doesn't mean you'll find a server that suits you right away. If there's none, then join an empty server and get the game going. Someone has to do it after all.
Game seems to be the most active in the evenings for UTC timezone, and Normal/Hard difficulty levels are probably the most occupied ones amongst them all.

I would give it a shot, but be warned, it's not as casual-friendly as KF2, and co-op actually makes a difference. Also wait for a discount, it's not worth full price IMO, when you can get the same content for a lower price by 80%.

The guy with 3 hours in KF2 tells you how casual it is btw.

If you buy it, then for playing with friends. There are still enough working servers. But if you want, you can create your own, although this will require some knowledge.

There are few players, but almost everyone knows each other. You can see the online game statistics here.[steamdb.info]

As already correctly noted in post #1, the game is not as casual as the second part and co-op matters. Well, it is also worth buying this game at a discount.

Of course, you are obviously limited to have an opinion (that is shared by many) on what you have seen by yourself, in your very own gameplay. Totally no doubt.

Never tried HoE in KF2, but suicidal in KF2 will never be as close as hard in KF1 in terms of difficulty.

Sometimes that all it takes.

I kinda doubt its worth it at this point, cant be enough players to just join a random match at this point, heck I wouldn't be surprised if kf2 is taking longer to find valid matches. Been years since I've last played this game seriously.

This. 50% of the time usually someone will end up joining you on the server.
Then you have the lame people who join at the 8th wave because they are lazy and want quick achivements.
I took a break for years, I can still find a decent random game.
