Try bird farm, mohgwyn

Since you're already in Raya Lucaria, go to Rose Church (in one of the islands in the lake) and complete Varré's quest until he gives you the item to teleport to Mohgwyn Palace.

Go there and make your way to the Ledge site of grace (go through the lake of blood instead of through the blood zombies). There you'll find a cliff full of sleeping Albinaurics that give you 2k souls each. Or you can try to shoot the giant bird on the other side for 11k souls.

Easy spot for low level character in the area is go north on the lake up to The Ravine site of grace. Walk in the ravine up to the end (there is another site of grace at the end of the ravine) and kill all the giant land squirts on your way. They have a fairly big chunk of health but they are slow so relatively easy to kill. You just need to avoid their poisonous mist. You will get ~1K + 6% chance of getting a Gold Rune that worth 1.6K to 3.8K per kill. Last time I went there I've made 15K in less than 5 minutes in a single pass in NG+1.

Kill Vulgar Militiamen near the Bestial Sanctum (Caelid). Only in this area one killed militant is one thousand runes. With yellow eyes is 5 thousand runes. This area is a very good to farm runes, but be careful Vulgar Militiamen are strong so run over, backstab it.

Or kill Grayoll in Caelid.
If you ride Torrent back to the fort faroth site of grace just as Grayoll is dying, she'll drop the runes and respawn. With the right rune buffs it's super quick.

You don't need to rush the big locations (Stormveil Castle, Raya Lucaria Academy), you can do a lot of stuff around those locations first. You can go to the south and do the whole Weeping Peninsula first. You can go east and get wrecked in Caelid (the red area) until you get stronger.

The possibilities are endless. This may sound like an exaggeration, but I only beat Godrick almost 30 hours into the game.

If you're not sure because you don't have that map unlocked yet, try to walk into the unexplored areas around the main road (they appear even if unexplored) - you'll see a sort of blinking slab on the map. That's where you unlock that part of the map.

If you have done Stormveil Castle at level below 30, you`ll clean Weeping Peninsula and Liurnia of the Lakes (South, East and may be West) quickly and get some weapon and smithing stones along with runes up to level 40-50-60. Actually there is no need to farm runes in Elden Ring.

Yeah, stooo10 is correct. I only started farming after level 150 because each level needed a ton of runes. I've never felt the need to farm before then. I just did the dungeons normally and leveled a lot that way. Some field bosses that look like they're worth nothing, like the Avatars, are worth 90,000 runes in some cases.
Try to explore a little before rushing the next location.

dont do it. cuz then it will ruin the game with infinite runes.
most fun i had with elden ring was in 2022 when i was like op, underleved without knowing where to go

Some bosses only appear at night.
