Messmer was not particularly difficult, here is why.
I found Mesmer not particularly difficult, because he can be easily poise broken, and most attacks are easily absorbed w/ shield + fire resistance. I understand however, that the average player does not know anything abt damage resist, just big club or katana or pure mage larp outfit + roll.

If you are struggling, and not enjoying yourself, it is time to accept that mayb you cannot 'just roll' & play highspeed, it is okay, I will not tell anyone if you condescend to checking out the crafting menu, or equip a damage resist talisman, or actually be intelligent and incorporate the damage resist or heal incantations your "strong club guy" character can most likely afford to equip w/ 8-10 faith. Or God forbid... equip a... shield... or... figure out what enemies are resistant to what damage :0 :0

Another example, invading ppl in undead areas & watching them actually have to hit the downed skeletons... becoming swarmed & dying w/o my input... It is okay guys, you can equip a sacred weapon...

I honestly thought Messmer was one of the more well-telegraphed bosses of the DLC. The only moves that confused me at first were the phase 2 snake bite attacks, but otherwise that fight is rather fair and learnable, in my opinion.

If you're going to "just roll" a boss Messmer is the one to do it, though. You can get a quick attack before most of his super delayed thrusts. You can get obvious punishes off after his combos. All of his jump attacks and explosions have huge recovery frames. You actually do double damage to him if you hit his snake while it's dissolving back into his human form.

Yeah, totally agree Sam. I find the people complaining about difficultly seem to always be the ones that just spam the r1 l1 attacks. This game has multiple deep systems to learn and once you do and use your brain a little more, the base game nor the dlc is really that difficult. Maybe we just catch onto things quicker then the average individual.. I don't know..

If I didn't find him so cool and fun to learn I would have found him difficult. It was a blast learning the fight

He is just a classic dodge, punish, stagger boss

as a caster he is a bit hard. he constantly hands my ass to me lol. as If I dmg him too much he aggros me pretty hard and constantly thrusts at me multiple times. I can get him to less than 20% but I need to incrase my summons more since they are only a +7 so far and I am at +12 with blessings. Im learning him though just need to reorganize my tactics I think.

My biggest mistake is refusing to take off my best bling. I walked in there with minimal poise and multiple talisman that increased the amount of damage I took.... I can typically get away with rolling, playing quickly, and adapting my weapon choice to solo a boss, but Messmer messed me up because his combos are so fluid and fast that even one slip up would result in me being stun locked and killed (especially in phase 2).... increasing poise let me beat him easily, but I'll never forgive myself for looking so ugly doing it.
stack. fire. resist.
Both Messmer and Bayle (and literally everyone but Radahn to be honest) can be simply out DPS'ed if you have 15+ blessings. Like, equip your chonkiest armor, cast Golden Vow, eat some crab and then just spam Lion's Claw, that's it, that's the game.

This is an RPG and it's easy to break. The game is only difficult if you use some self-imposed rules.

every boss is easier to fight with a good shield. For messmer the camera lock on is the worst part of the fight.

He just fell off the stage for me. Not even a fight.
i have to disagree

of all the bosses i have faced so far mesmer was by far the most difficult
and its not even close.
mainly because the camera makes it sooo damn hard to see what he is even doing.

Ofc you can Shield Poke or Mimic or double craigblade Hammer jump attack
but movementwise i have studied the boss for 1h now and i still dont have his moveset down more than 70%....

Romina Bud Saint, Prudescent Knight , Rellana are not even 20% of his difficulty movementwise

having +15 at mesmer is same as going to Margit level 70 ;)
ofc you will just destroy him with damage.

Mesmer is more "balanced" for +8 or +9

For me the question is about how easy is it to learn his attacks and not how easy it is to win.

Strength Build + Mimic make all bossfights 0/10 difficulty in terms of winning
but that doesnt mean you learned anything

It's odd how Messmers' second stage is much easier than the first
The first is just so damn relentless that no he's definitely up there with the harder fights for me (Also the aerial jabs into randomly laid out spear explosion attack feels like figuring out Waterfowl based on distance)

Here's my big piece of advice for fighting Messmer:
Don't roll away from him. Roll toward him. You're not going to get out of his attack range, and you want to be in prime position to hit him in his openings.

And his terminal case of Never Stops Attacking Syndrome certainly will force you to use those openings.
