controllers mapping turning to crap in this game?

my controller works in everything, steam, emulators, every game but i try to use it in this game and the Y suddenly becomes left button left button becomes start. im not talking about the settings i mean thats what my controller reads when i click those buttons. does this game only work with a microsoft controller? im starting to remember why i refunded this game last time. how do i fix this?!...

Yakuza like a dragon is one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of playing, it is beyond words, the depth and the soul of this game is amazing it is a beautiful story one that hits every single spot perfectly with the kind of open world that isn't intimidating unlike many other RPG's I've played, often when I play RPG's I do not look forward to completing each side-quest I stumble upon if done wrong it feels like a chore but with this it feels like a blessing to come across one, an opportunity to make someone smile, you are not gonna just bump into a person that needs help when you are busy, rather you are set down after certain story points to free roam and given a fistful of favors. everything about this game elicits emotion and life I have never aspired to be more like the main character of a piece of media before, and it makes me proud to me a human, god bless you all.
