April 2025 Patch Notes

These notes are for the test build on the "live" client (which is the client for pre-testing before patch comes to the main Playtest client) - we expect that some things will change by the time it makes it to Playtest.

NOTE: Server Browser servers with "Playtest" in the name are not compatible with the testing version. Use Custom Games for online play for now.

Game Features

-New menu screens
-New game mode that we are prototyping - Track. This mode is meant to provide a fun place for offline (currently) and future potential online play. It’s playable in practice mode
-Return of Rabbit mode
-Duel mode added to custom matches
-Made a pass at fixing the longstanding deadstop bug which we expect solved the issue. Please report instances of any deadstop continuing to occur.

Servers
-Moved custom games to new server hosting provider

UI
-Wholly new UI for the out-of-match experience
-New and updated UI for the in-match experience
-New gameplay HUD
-Tab menu and top bar shows your team on the left and uses friendly / enemy colors. This should enhance clarity of what team you are on, and who has the flag. Team names are displayed for additional clarity
-New Stats screen
-New Loadout screen and Weapon Info
-IFF colors do not use a scroll wheel going forward

CTF Map adjustments:

CTF-Brynhildr
-Adjusted spawns so fewer are clustered on the back hill

CTF-Ingonyama
-Removed front rock spawn and re-added 2 of the original side spawns

CTF-Hadrian
-New flag stand and location
-Pushed out OOB on all sides
-New spawns to align with new stand
-Art and terrain updates

CTF- Relay
-Adjusted defence pillars angle and height - they now point towards the flag and are shorter
-Moved back spawn to the cliff behind the flag stand
-Fixed some holes in rocks that flags could fall inside of and become inaccessible

CTF-Vortex:
-Adjusted the base layout and spawn locations to improve standoff play
-Adjusted terrain for more route variety
-Added anti-cheese OOB to some of the spiky rocks to prevent players from hiding

-Redid pyramid LODs so that they are consistent models

-Added boost gates to the tops of the circuit ramps
-Added perimeter road

-In the Loadout menu, you now only see the items that you own as per our back-end. This is a bug, we intend to show the whole list of skins in the game

Midair 2 Playtests Are Ongoing! Here's what that means!

Playtest means 24/7 open access to the in-development version of Midair 2 which is called "Midair 2 Playtest", which includes online play. It is the place for both existing and new players to enjoy the game.

Our community gathers every day for open public as well as pre-organized matches.
Playtest is not limited to special times, or certain days!

If you are curious about Midair 2, you don't need to wait for release - come join us today!

How do I get in?

When you click the "Request Access" link on the Midair 2 Steam page, you will immediately receive the Midair 2 Playtest build in your library.

When you launch it, you will be able to join online servers, as well as to explore the various solo practice features.

What are the most active times for the online community?

Local time evenings are often the best times to encounter other players in public servers. The majority of our players are playing from US, European, and Australian time zones - and local servers are available!

If you don't encounter other players - feel free to check out the solo practice modes using bots or drills, or invite some friends along!

You can always check our server status page to see which servers are populated midair2.gg/servers

If you see players online in a high-ping region, don't worry! Midair 2 plays great even at high ping!

What if I have feedback or want to talk about the game?

The Official Midair 2 Discord[discord.gg] is the best place to connect with players, mentors, and developers. It is also the best place to catch up on game announcements, and receive notifications for public game events.

What can I expect in the game?

Midair 2 is a game about sliding down hills with anti-friction boots, using your jetpack to get high into the air, and capturing the enemy team's flag. It is currently typically played in 5v5 competitive, or 7v7 public matches. There are dozens of maps to explore and learn, as well as practice features to hone your skills.

I love it, can I support you in any way?

BIG GREEN BUTTON Patch Notes - 1.10.0.16425

Overview

Here it folks, this is the big update we’ve been working towards for several months now. We will finally open up access to Midair 2 directly on Steam, allowing users to request access and join the Playtest without needing to join discord and get a key. Additionally, we will now leave Playtest servers up 24x7 instead of just on the weekends. These are two huge changes in and of themselves, but we’ve got a patch chock-full of updates, new features, and bug fixes as well. Thank you so much to all those who’ve participated in Playtest since last October; we’re excited to share this next phase of Playtest with you all!

Note: this update is for 'Midair 2 Playtest'. If your Midair 2 library name doesn't have Playtest in it, you need to get the Playtest version.

General

Added floating damage numbers with toggle (visible in last patch but absent from notes)
Demo fixes and functional again
Patreon supporters will now get an (optional?) star next to their in-game name

Audio

Updated jetpack sfx
Added 2nd layer of speed-based wind

Map Updates

All CTF & TDM maps: Consistency in post-processing settings for lens-flare (off), motion blur (on), and LUTs.
Some fogs are now volumetric in levels where they weren’t before
Relay, Forlorn, Hadrian, Octane, Silvas have received significant visual updates.
Minor visual tweaks and a couple of minor bug fixes elsewhere.
CTF-Kryosis and CTF-Raptor, among a few others, have been removed for the time being while reworks are considered.

Fixes

Duplicate servers should no longer appear in server browser
Sorting by ping should be fixed
Framerate cap should be fixed - changing requires restarting the game.
Motion blur fixed - works in first person as well as third now

QoL

Flag grab speed is now displayed in chat
Friendly IFFs now always visible
Shrunk spawn-in beam VFX; adjusted animation timing
Updated all CTF loading screens and end of match screens
Updated Practice Menu with latest maps and thumbnails
Removed deaths from in-game scoreboard
kills will soon be awarded to enemy that last shot you, if >50% dmg, when you evacuate before deat

Known Issues

Bot behaviour - planning a bigger upgrade in future, but will fix the following issues soon:
Issues with hit markers/hit audio
Bot jetpack audio will sound buggy due to some undesirable behaviour
Matchmaking has received significant simplification but is as yet non-functional, we hope to address this in an update soon.

Final Weekend-only Playtest of Midair 2! Join us!

Hello Everyone!

First of all - thank you so very much for being here and being a part of our community. To those who have joined Playtests for the past 16 weeks, those who joined more recently, and those of you who have been with this at any point since its beginnings almost four years ago! To those who have participated in lively discussions, or spent time streaming, creating videos, guides, running PUG servers - thank you as well for being pillars of this community and this corner of the games universe.

This weekend’s test marks the last of the weekend-only playtests - and is something we have been looking forward to for a long time!

Through the playtest process, we have been able to update the game’s engine, received reams of feedback, improved old maps and tested new ones, tested new features, weapons and sounds, improved server performance, and were able to locate and crush plenty of bugs too. None of this is possible without your participation! Not only that - we have made new friends along the way - which is the most rewarding part of building a game.

There is still a lot that we want to accomplish: in core CTF, in League mode, TDM, as well as the dreams of larger gameplay that we share with many in the Midair 2 community, and in the broader FPS-Z community as well.

If you’ve been around long enough you know - we are a tiny team working towards these goals.

The outcomes of what comes next will help to determine what we can achieve, and what the future scope of this project will be.

As the servers come down after this weekend’s playtest - on Monday 12th US - we will launch playtest signups directly thru Steam.

The announcement for when the new phase of server access begins will come at a later time.

When the next phase does start however, you should expect the servers to stay up 24/7 outside of maintenance and patching. At the same time - servers on the “Live” version will shut down, and everyone will finally play the same version of the game regardless of what day it is.

New players will join - some who have experience with the genre, and some without. Many of us wouldn’t be here if not for the suggestions and mentorship of other already much more skilled players, and we hope that this sort of interaction between newbies and vets will continue.

Removing the barriers to entry and keeping the game up all the time are two huge pieces of the puzzle - we know that many folks didn’t want to engage with a Discord in order to play a game, and others just preferred to wait until the game was up and running fully.

That day is coming soon!

TLDR:

Servers for Playtest Weekend 16 are up! This is the last of the weekend-only playtests! Please hop into the game and make it our biggest one yet!
Steam Playtest signup will begin on Monday 12th
If you are already in the Playtest build, you don’t need to do anything to sign up.
If you are live-only, you will need to click the green button on the Midair 2 Steam page starting Monday.
The time for the new phase of testing will be announced later. Servers will be up 24/7 when it launches.
No patch this week as we work to polish up the next phase.

We hope you all enjoyed the holidays and the extended holiday playtest! That was the longest we've kept servers up and it was well worth it. It was also a good warmup for the imminent opening of Midair 2 Playtest to 24/7 availability - no more needing a key, no more only on weekends!

We will have an announcement soon on a target date for that update we're calling 'Big Green Button'.

We will be releasing the UE 4.27 engine upgrade to Midair 2 Playtest on Christmas Day, the exact timing of which will be announced in discord before the 25th. Patch notes will be posted along with the update!

We are hoping this is one of the last playtest runs with keys or weekend-only access, as we are looking to open up the Playtest on Steam and keep servers up permanently.

We are extending Playtest this weekend to include Monday! We found a bunch of users were, for one reason or another, missing out on weekend availability. In light of this, we felt it was best to extend :)

Not quite enough for a patch notes this week, but here's the changes we've got for this weekend:

Outpost biome change, relight, post and fog.
Exhumed, Minora and Ingo very mild Post updates with LUT and chromatic aberration.

Let us know what you think. This is part of a bigger process of giving our most-played maps a bit of a refresh, as can be seen in recent changes to: CTF-Brynhildr, CTF-Elite, CTF-TwilightGrove, TDM-Blitz, TDM-Nightward, and TDM-SunsetYolandi.

We are now at 2 months of running weekend Steam Playtests, since our major update on October 20th. It's been quite the positive transition for us to a new phase of game development and community engagement.

If you last played Midair CE/Midair 2 before October 20th, we'd love for you to come back and check out the changes on Playtest, but broadly - keys are freely available, servers feel better, and public games are the focus!

Midair 2 Playtest - Weekend #7

Happy Saturday all, we've already seen our highest concurrent users yet this weekend! A great way to start off December.

Regarding recent news, we are thrilled to see some much-needed attention being given to the FPS-Z genre. Perhaps 2024 will finally be the year that brings us the age of freedom of movement!

As for this weekend's playtest, we have just a few small items of note:

CTF-TwilightGrove art pass - new fog, atmosphere, skybox
CTF-Brynhildr - skybox fix, increased fog
League flag has been tweaked to be lighter and have a bigger hitbox - floatier and easier to grab!

Weekly updates will continue to be mostly small changes and improvements while we continue to work on the Unreal Engine upgrade. We are aware of the lingering and persistent crashing and sympathize with the frustration of that. To that end, we are hopeful this upgrade to UE 4.27 will alleviate a majority of the instability.

There will be a larger announcement later this weekend with regard to our next milestones and our plans for growth and expansion in the near future - stay tuned in our Discord!
