Game is so poorly optimised!
On my 4090 in 4K, this game sends it to 100% ALL THE TIME in High or Ultra settings. Makes it consume about 350W always. Running at around 100fps. Games normally are maxxed out at 144.
I have literally never seen this happening in any other game. I mean it's not even that the graphics here look overly demanding.
Is this something that'll be fixed?

Most AAA games are not native 4K when playing in 4K. They usually render the game at a % of the screen resolution, then have DLSS and FSR to upscale while keeping performance levels adequates.

In the upcoming update (early next week), we'll have DLSS, FSR, Antialiasing and texture resolution settings that should allow players to fine tune the game better for 4K+ resolutions and 120+ fps speeds.

At the moment I would suggest to try the Global Settings at Medium and all the other settings at High to achieve 144 FPS on a 4090 while having good visual quality.

whats wrong with 100fps? lol i don't understand people in 2023. 100 fps not smooth enough?

google this eyethemack: FPS of Human Eyes

between 30 and 60 frames per second
But our eyes can only perceive the visual clues in the environment around us at a certain rate due to how quickly they move. Although experts find it difficult to agree on a precise number, the general consensus is that the human eye FPS for most individuals is between 30 and 60 frames per second.3 May 2023

lol 60hz is all ya need vs ye olde refresh rate cuz if its faster than that ya Brain Stutters instead of ya games cuz ya Brain is Frame Skipping when the fps goes over 60 in every game in ya steam library:tacho:
lol if the game has V Sync then turn that on eh
https://youtu.be/MMoRg_VIMqY?si=-2vukvgsN-BehFeL

I enjoyed the 1st kona even helped the dev fix a few bugs just gotta save up to buy kona 2 eventually:albedothumbsup:

happy Halloween

Also alexander i saw a news article in my steam library that kona 2 is out now
it took me to the kona 1 store page after looking at the news article comments then clicking the discussion takes ya to kona 1 store page instead of going the kona 2 discussion forum here

now go play cities skylines 2 op then come back here n post the difference in performance n that's if CS2 doesn't melt ya 4090 at 12 fps in the main menu xd n set ya state of the art glow in the dark NASA pc on fire xd cuz cs2 runs like a dogs breakfast lol

games have gotta be below 30 fps with everything on low with a very high end pc to whine about performance in any game n if this runs at 100 fps then the performance is just fine n if running too fast slow it down to 60 n maybe ya brain stop stuttering and ya pc fans stop screaming at ya when ya turn vsync on n limit ya fps to 60 n set ya refresh rate to 60hz n save a ton of money on ya laggy 144hz power bill:)

This what happens when the fps goes over 60 vs ya brain stuttering n ya game is running way too fast=
https://youtu.be/VgjyPmFKxCU?si=ScFbcnLxY0Wt85Oa
you will see a bullet hit an egg in real life at 60 fps ya hear a bang n that's it lol cuz ya cant even see the bullet as its going so fast
ya watch it at 10000 fps n a camera is a machine that can see way more fps than humans can n lol she goes into slow mo while ya brain skips a ton of frames to see a bullet hit an egg in slow mo at 10000-1 million fps...
food for thought while 144hz nerfs ya power bill cooks ya hardware for an early death and makes ya brain lag making ya think ya games are lagging but its not ya games that are lagging while ya brain is frame skipping causing the effect of lag vs vision cuz ones game is running too fast then ya slow it down to 60 n max all the graphics out n play it with dead silent fans=what is lag=there is none vs all ya games exept for CS2 cuz paradox broke cs2 in style xd

I've had 60 Hz displays for a long time and like smooth Vsync, so I haven't cared about framerates in decades. If it's smooth game play, it's 60 FPS :-)

I care more about pixel response time in a display, rather than the frequencies it emulates.

I was like that. 60Hz was good enough for years. Till I bought a 165Hz monitor and changed my GPU to keep up with the FPS. Then I knew what those guys were talking about. (hint it doesn't impact just visual, but input response time, too)

But the OP was talking about unoptimized game. Most responses evade the question by "60Hz is good enough, don't complain" then the main question is forgotten and it, as usual, becomes "60Hz is enough" subject.

4090 at only 100fps? Even at 4K, that's low.

But people compare native 4K to other game's "FSR and DLSS upscaled 4K". That is an unfair comparison. Still, both FSR and DLSS are coming in our next update that is currently being tested.

Lol at the dev talking about you should lower the settings down to Medium to get it to run at 144fps on a 4090. This is just another Unity dev that bought all of their assets from the Unity Store or from a contractor with no regard for optimization. I'd love to see the overdraw heatmap for this game because it probably looks like you're staring into an active caldera.

2560x 1440p(2k) runs like utter butter no dlss and 100% screen percentage on rtx 3070 ryzen 7 cpu system with 32 gigs of ddr4 ...try reducing your res to that should be fine on that ....

if u cant push this game with a 4090 at 2560 x 1440 max settings something is wrong with players pc setup malware virus bitcoin miner something is going on...because i am at those current settings on a rtx 3070 card and runs like utter butter.....

Game IS OPTIMIZED!!!!

Unity from what i can find only has a render debugger for overdraw not a actual heatmap tool for overdraw like UE5 does with Nanite...just throwin that out there they dont have the ability to really see overdraw well in unity too bad this wasnt ue5 wouldnt be a issue lol

Folks, if you can run some sort of HUD (or see performance history in some monitoring utility) take a look at your CPU usage. For this game, your CPU is actually more significant than you might think. Proper usage of 3D APIs DOESN'T require a high end, modern CPU because your graphics card, through drivers and direct rendering, does most of the work. I survived with a Nehalem Corei7 for 14 years... it wasn't until there were games I wanted to play that have AVX instructions baked in.

I originally put an AMD RX 6700 XT card in this new box. It died on me and I had to grab the old RX 570 card out of the other box until a new one got there. While I had that card in here, I played Kona 2 on this rig and surprise, surprise, there was absolutely no difference in performance with that graphics card downgrade. Now I have an RX 7700 XT in here and performance is still the same 100%.

On the old rig, I had areas with significant performance drops. It didn't matter that much as this isn't exactly a twitchy FPS game or anything, but it was unpleasant.

If you have enough CPU for this with an adequate graphics card, you're likely not going to experience performance problems.

It's UNITY that bites the weenie. Don't even blame the game devs. Moreover, this is a highly ambitious project for that engine, with the level of detail. Few Unity games have even remotely impressed me (and I don't like Valheim...)
