Hardware & OS: MacBook Pro running macOS Mojave 10.14.6

I did the step where I delete the video folder so that the game is playable. However, one issue persists:
If I use the application switcher (command + tab), the screen blinks black and red before showing the other application windows I have open. When I switch back, it reopens as expected (the game doesn't automatically pause). However, if I switch applications again after having done it once already, the screen goes black, and then shows the USER LOGIN SCREEN (i.e., switching applications a second time forced it to log out).

Also, when I reboot Steam, it won't launch if it crashed in this manner, and then it won't stop, either.

Is there a fix for this?
