What's the point in sneaking?
I mean holding CTRL down. I can walk up an inch behind an enemy without alerting him so what's the point of using the sneak button when all it does is slow me down?
I get that it makes you silent on gravel but is that it?

Yes and for certain cases walking through door will be heard and sneaking will be silent.
