Meat Boy

Minor spoilers but it occurred to me after beating the game; what happened to meat boy? Honestly I kinda hated the first game and really like this one but I find it kind of odd there's no mention of one of the few party members from the first game. There's even a flashback to a fight he could of been in but he wasn't there?
