Wreckfest 2 is a demolition derby racer where chaos is the goal and turning your car into scrap metal is half the fun. Still in Early Access, it brings some of the destructive magic that made the first game such a hit — but right now, it feels more like a teaser than a proper sequel. There’s car carnage, dirt-slinging mayhem, and a physics system that makes every crash count, but everything else is clearly still under construction.

Pros
✔️ Destruction feels great – Cars can get demolished and it’s genuinely satisfying to see fenders fly and suspensions snap in real-time.
✔️ Tough but rewarding – There’s no hand-holding here. Whether you’re racing or wrecking, it expects you to fight your way to the top.
✔️ Lots of potential – Even in Early Access, there’s a decent signs this game will be pretty good when done — and with more coming down the pipeline, it’s set up for something big.

Cons
❌ Feels too early even for Early Access – From missing features to rough bugs, it really needed more time in the garage before dropping.
❌ Customization & UI need love – It’s barebones and clunky right now, and makes digging into tuning or upgrades kind of annoying.
❌ Controls feel mushy – Most vehicles handle like a microwave strapped to a skateboard. Sloppy steering and unresponsive physics drag it down.

Conclusion
As someone who loved the first Wreckfest, this version kinda bummed me out. I want to love it — the bones are there — but it feels more like a very public tech demo than something I’d recommend jumping into. The crashes are fun, sure, but everything around them needs some serious tuning. I’ll keep my eye on it, but for now, this one’s stalling out just past the starting line.

Score: 4/10 Crumpled Chassis
Early access is one thing, but this feels like it’s still waiting for the engine to show up.

I loved the first game and I'm sure I'll love this one too.. when I can play it. Right now there is a bug that crashes the game at launch because I have USB foot pedals plugged in (for accessibility). When I unplug them the game runs fine. Since it's in early access I won't thumbs down them for that, but if it doesn't get fixed within a reasonable time, I'll be back to complain.

The overhauled physics engine has left me feeling entirely unimpressed, all vehicles now handle like a building brick on filing cabinet caster wheels. SURE the game looks good. but that's not a trade off for physics and net-code that are markedly worse than the first game.

SYSTEM

- Improved game stability.

- A warning is now displayed when launching the game and there could be low amount of VRAM available.

ONLINE

- Added configurable event rotation.

- It's now possible to get a faster launch at the event start by holding revs at the optimal range, visualized in the tacho.

- When using automatic clutch, it's now possible to speed through gears even when a shift is already in progress.

- Reset can be now triggered with a push of a button instead of needing to hold it down when reset delay is used.

HUD

- Start lights are now displayed at the event start.

- Redline is now visualized in the tachometer.

- A wrong way notification is now displayed in the HUD.

- Bogus damage notifications are now longer displayed in the HUD after a respawn.

- What is shown in the damage HUD now better matches the visual car damage.

- Car tags are now shown from further away.

- Improved HUD element placements and resolution.

- Improved turning in racing mode.

- Smarter racing lines with more realistic apexes.

- Better pathfinding in derby arenas.

Hey everyone! I wanted to share an idea about adding an optional nitrous system to Wreckfest 2. I think it could really spice up the gameplay without taking away from the core racing and wrecking mechanics. Bugbear built an incredible damage system, yet it’s very often detrimental to your race to go for wrecks. I love their ps2 era games and even ridge racer, but the Wreckfest series’ gameplay style never appealed to me. The OPTION to race using a Flatout-style nitrous system would be a huge addition to 2 to make it stand out from the first and also appeal to more people (like me, selfishly.)
