Purple stone knife

Question:

Keep seeing things like "oh you need purple stone knife for act four for [reasons]" and.... how?

Using the purple stone knife on the wardstone (something which AFAIK you MUST do) in act 1 destroys it... like it's GONE, finito, no longer exists. At least in the two options i chose (those being "Remove the bad angels" and "Destroy the wardstone (like the knife wanted)"

What... what situation lets you keep the knife? Because the only alternative option i remember to either of those is "Remove the good angels" and i really doubt that does anything new.

It depends on the path. With Trickster, Demon and Azata you can certainly keep it (I can't remember details, though). Not sure abou the rest. But even if you lose the purple knife that way, you can get to the secret ending. Because... the purple knife is nothing but a material component for one of the possible endings. You have a way to acquire alternatives.

The only thing you need at act 4 is to give it to the Storyteller if you have not connected the dots. You can give it to one of the powerful denizens of the Abyss... but why would you do that, anyway?
