Controller malfunctioning?
So when I try to do anything the controller scrolls like the d-pad is being pressed up/down. It is not. Nothing is stuck. I reconnected my controller, tried a different one as well - they all do the same thing. The controllers work fine in all my other games. Anyone know to fix this?

So, I disconnected my controller, using the keyboard works fine.. I go into settings, reconnect my controller and then it goes all haywire, scrolling and activating things. WTF? This game won't even be enjoyably w/o a controller.
Ok, going to controller settings for the game and allowing steam input fixed it. Never had to do that before. I use DS4 for windows w/ps4 controllers.
I am having the exact same problem, I have tried the Xbox Series Controller, a PS4 a Ps5 and a 8bitdo, they all have the same problem.

Ok, so go to your steam settings and make sure xbox/playstation are enabled in the controller settings. Then right click on FF, preferences, then go to controller, click the drop down and enable steam input.
That's the only thing that worked for me.

I was just about to refund.

I had the same problem, and I am using a DS3 pad. I thought it was a conflict with my flight throttle, and disabled it in the steam settings. It solved the infinite scrolling for me.

Now the controller is super laggy, as if it skips some inputs. Also I can't keep moving/scrolling in a direction by holding a d-pad button or pushing the stick.

I'm using a ps5 controller, no issues at all since launching the game, just had to go into config and swap O and X. cause O will never be confirm for me.

Actually I spoke too soon. XD it worked in the menu for like 10 seconds, and then once I was in the game the character would stop every few squares. so I ended up refunding.

Yea it seems like that is another issue people are having a problem with. Sorry to hear.
The weird thing is that a friend of mine bought it and is using the same controller with the same cable and his works without doing anything.
Steam supports the DS4 no need for a third party driver. Or is that needed if you don't have the official wireless dongle?

The "enable steam input" worked for me thanks!
Used to be that d-pad would work in one direction but as soon as i pressed any other button character would stop. Now it works flawlessly. Using a ps4 controller btw.

Not sure if this would mean something, but I am on Windows 11 and my friend is on WIndows 10 maybe that is an issue as well?
