Artificial Extinction

Artificial Extinction

Prototype
I was intrigue by the discount because it is on my wish list. But then I got surprised by the low review count. Only 237 reviews after 5 years of release?

So I watch some Youtube videos. Then I understand the reason why.

It feels more like a prototype of a game from a single developer or a few programmers trying to earn extra bucks beside their real job in another company. For a game released in 2020, it feels more like it's from 2010, but with better texture and more polygons. The voice for the narrative is like generated using the most basic equipment. The particle effects, like bullets and explosions, are just so basic. The UI is just using standard components without any "cosmetics" to it. I mean it tries to copy the UI concept from "Halo" but it does not match the overall world environment. The color scheme is just not that immersive, like other professional games out there. And so on.

So when Steam gives a 65% discount, it's actually not a discount. It should be the normal price, especially when we're in 2025.

In the end, it's just another over-ambitious group of programmers or solo programmer trying to develop something but failed to rival any game studio out there.

I am a solo developer, self taught with the help of a very good tutor. I made this game all on my own as I learned Unreal Engine. I did the best I could with my skill set at the time. I made a lot of mistakes. Most importantly, I didn't get feedback by testers as I built the game. Most solo developers make 2d games, few try to make a fps... even fewer attempt a fps hybrid game like AE1. I agree that the pricing is far too high. After the sale expires, I'll adjust the price permanently to this level as you suggest. I've now spent over four years making the sequel AE2 and I'm super happy with how its coming along. Again, completely as a solo dev. I just want to be completely responsible for the concept and execution. Im building a game I always wanted to play but could never find. Thank you for your feedback.
