Did you have any AA Sentry's upgraded to include launchers that were firing missiles?
I will go through the level code again and see if I can find something.
As you mentioned it doesn't happen in the same spot every time. Last night i tried playing on an easier mode to see if it was mode related, got to 91% (and died, got hit by a bomb), tried again on easy and got the fatal error which to me at least rules out difficulty setting as the cause.
In terms of actions it doesn't appear to occur when i am either placing or upgrading a turret (although to answer your question, i am upgrading turrets to maximum level, ill try the level again with NO AA turret upgrades). I've played the level somewhere around 10 times now and if i had to guess i would say it occurs around when cut scenes are supposed to happen as sometimes it happens when i'm near turrets, and others it happens when i'm running around collecting metal. I thought maybe getting too far from base was a culprit but during the 91% run i did that the whole time without issues so i'm guessing its not that either. As a side effect, I'm getting REALLY damn polished at this level lol.
While i am happy to continue testing this, do you happen to have a method of allowing me to skip past level 2? Ideally i would love to continue on experiencing the game you built and then come back to level 2 for testing purposes after I've beat the game but i'm prevented from that currently:)
I'm going to focus on the cinematic code next and go through each line step by step. I tried sending you a private message to help you with getting passed level 2. Or you can email me at chris@100hrgames.com and I'll share some instructions with you.
Thanks so much for all your effort in helping me troubleshoot this!
So great news! using completely un-upgraded AA guns i was able to pass the level. Ironically upgrading snipers, and short range guns didnt cause any issues. At this point having someone that does experience this issue is likely valuable to you so i think im going to replay the level a few times and see if i can find any other trends or patterns that might help you narrow down. You've clearly put a lot of time and effort into this game, i would hate to see you issue refunds or lose rating because of something you cannot reproduce on your end. I'll let you know my findings as i learn more.
I'm building before wave begins:
3 metal miners
1 fuel (duh)
2 energy
6 sniper turrets
2 gun turrets
no upgrades on anything.
I get past the first cut scene of the 1st tank dying. I got past the message of "enemies in the canyon" before the error.
So then it may not be a cutscene code either then?
Curious, what cpu are you using? Any background apps you can close down to free up cpu processing? Perhaps anti virus software or something? The spider tanks foot placement requires significant processing power for a four legged character. I am able to get the game to crash in certain situations due to the 'Inverse Kinematics' processing power required by these characters.
Either way, I'm happy to send you instructions privately to help you manually pass the level, just reach out to me through email or private Steam direct message for instructions.
Luckily when i passed the level earlier this morning for the first (and only) time it progressed me to day 3 so i am no longer stuck. At this point I'm tinkering around in the level in an attempt to narrow down the issue as I'm curious at this point. I did just restart my PC and shut down extra windows to see if that helps.
In terms of CPU I'm using an Intel i7 4.0GHz CPU. Anti-virus software is avast (which hasn't informed me that it shut the game down which it usually does if it causes the problem). I'm about to try my first game post-restart so i'll reply back with what i find.
iI just experienced a fatal error on level 5 as well. I'll keep trying but in general the level was running really laggy before this error so im hoping a restart will help solve.
If it was one part of a level, I could very likely figure it out. With these almost random crashes... it's like it could be absolutely anything in the game or some kind of conflict in your pc with Unreal Engine... just a guess.
As I keep working on the game and reviewing code, I will keep this issue in mind in hopes of finding something. Thank you so much for your help! :)
Out of curiousity, what cpu/gpu are you using?
