Any other games like this?
Hey, I have to say I enjoy this game I really do. It has so much potential that I hope it doesn't go to waste and we see a another one. But it doesn't fully scratch the survival itch. Are there any games like this that you recommend?

I'm not interested in the raft or stranded deep.

Right now I have:
The Long Dark
Praey for the gods (shadow of the Colossus plus survival?)
The Flame in the flood

That is a very wide survival gamut.

A freebie that is really good is Arid:the Atacama experience . Windbound has a very simplistic crafting and survival mechanic, you don't want to just use tagged games on steamdb as a search?

Savage Lands is quite brutal.
Subnautica?

Thanks I'll took a look at Arid. Subnautica I've played and I'll check out Savage Lands. That's good idea i'll do that.

Yeah, @Perfect Lynk . Let me have another scan through my library.

Windbound has such basic crafting and very strong on story, that it's nothing like The Long Dark. For me they are on opposite ends of the survival genre. Windbound also reminded me of a few non-survival games that tell stories well. I'll try dig some of those out.

All I can think of is Fallout 4 - which is really a RPG game though. Plenty of RPG type survival/space games that are really sandboxes I guess. Lets see if anyone else can find a few.

Windbound is basic but it is enjoyable and hope they can flesh another one out in the future and the long Dark has been praised with really good survival.

Fallout isn't really my thing, I tried 3 but I just couldn't get into it. Look forward to see if you have any hidden gems.

Windbound for me was more relaxing. I'm curating/running a group for more relaxing games which was why I found it. Fallout is definitely not one of them LOL. And there is always Minecraft, but I love the Minecraft creative mode too much.

Terraria is a possible - 2D though.
The Forrest ?
Rust... naah it's a bit sweaty
Don't Starve ? Not played it, but it's probably similar to the Flame in the Flood?

I'm also keen on checking out Green Hell (if time even allows.)
Space survival games are pretty brutal, I do love those, a few in my catalog. Am wondering if there are not that many survival games that are fun and story strong and not just populated with zombies or tough monsters... although 7days2Die is an exception, I loved that game. But nope, nothing much more than that comes up, sorry.

Any of those space ones you recommend?

I'm actually right now trying to find time to get into Elite Dangerous, was a childhood fan. but I've been enjoying Empyrion Galactic Survival

Empyrion Galactic is very much a sandbox, with focus on you making up your own back-story, because the game provides quests, but they are very meh. It's not relaxing, it's very technically challenging as the crafting/tech tree is pretty big, but it is a fun "builder" game, and you can really build some cools spaceships. Empyrion has multiplayer, but it's very laggy, and the game has bugs here and there, small developer team and all.

NMS Is much more relaxing, base building is a bit glitchy, but it has nice quests, and multiplayer actually works. Although I found it more fun to totally disable multiplayer to avoid distractions. More fun, more quests, but not as much crafting.

I found Space Engineers, to be too similar to Empyrion Galactic, and just as technical, but just another space sim to have to learn how to play. I found the building system just a tad too overdone.

Not played Astroneer, it's much more cute and relaxing, (from watching the kid play it.)

Thanks I'll check them out.

If you liked this game, it's very similar to another game called Breakwaters, where one of the major mechanics of the game is actually the manipulation of water (you have items that repel or attract water, and the physics of water are a lot of fun to play with!). There's pretty similar survival and crafting elements, exploring islands by boat, and cartoony art and feel.

If you like customized building and survival, I really love Valheim, which gives you a lot of freedom to build houses/fortresses/castles and a pretty robust crafting system, with a huge world to explore, and the survival element is pretty well balanced.
