This is a very, VERY good tactics game, although it does have some issues I'll be getting to later.

First off, there is not much of a story in this game. It's basically a series of combat encounters after each other with some environmental puzzles in-between (many of which will get more and more annoying to do as time goes on). The theming however is spot-on, they have what they aimed for which is XCOM meets Running Man, and it's great.

The combat is REALLY good. One thing many tactics games struggle with is that abilities can be kind of isolated. Like their singular abilities, but they don't synergize. This is NOT the case here. All characters have abilities that synergize really well not just with their own abilities, but each other. My favourite synergize is Scarlet having an ability where she cannot be hit by bullets and another that lets her use both her action points and then take a shot after that, letting her cause damage and pretty guaranteed making herself a target, taking heat off the others. There are 2 enemies that are an action that do not attack ranged, but yeah, absolutely great. This is also one HELL of a power fantasy. You start out weak, but towards the end you dealing some SERIOUS damage. The skill-trees are genuinely great (except for the one character which kinda sucks) with a good mix between stat-increases (movement range being KEY especially for a few characters who got nothing to start with) and passive and active abilities. The combat doesn't get REALLY fun however until the DLC where you can use all characters. For most of the game, you're stuck with 3 characters/combat even as you get 4-6 characters, only allowing 4 at the final championship battle, which makes that more fun, but the DLC where you get all of them is HELLA FUN.

Ok, to the cons:
- The UI is GODAWFUL. First of all even turning on the option for the game to tell you if an ability will end a turn, doesn't mean it will. Some abilities cost no AP to use, some don't and the game doesn't really tell you, you sort of have to memorize.
- The to-hit font is terrible, mostly in size. Like a lot of this game depends on when deciding to move the character (because there is no undo) you see sight-lines if they can shoot from that position and a percentage point, except the percentage point is in so low a font that unless it's distinctive numbers like 75 or 100 I can't tell the difference between 30/60/80 % chance to hit, with understandable consequences. There is a bigger box once you're in position and actually choose the shoot command, but again no undo unless you reload your save (see next point). It also could do with a stronger highlight when you're out of ammo, because so often I'd move into position realizing I was out of ammo. Also conversely no sight lines if you're out of ammo so if your character is out of ammo, you have to kinda guess whether they'll be able to do something afterwards. Doesn't matter as much with Scarlet & Tybalt (the EASILY two best characters) as they have other abilities, but more for the others.
- And about that reload, this is the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥-up autosave system I've ever seen. Like you can choose whether this game autosaves once every battle or turn. I'm not sure about the first, but the second is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥-up. Because *sometimes* (and sometimes means there's no way to predict this) that means it autosaves properly each turn and *sometimes* that means it autosaves when a character is switched. And there are only a limited number of autosaves meaning if you ♥♥♥♥ up it's hard to reload to where you need to go because of it.
- The fame system I'm not a fan of how it's implemented, because you're asked to make decisions before you understand your character. Because of how many points needed I just thought I'd be able to max 1 stat so I picked at the final tree as it had a great ability (reduction of cooldown for Scarlet), but it turns out you can max out 2 stats enough, but because of the way I did it I wasn't able to do that - I did try to switch for a while and didn't think I would have enough points so I stopped trying for the previous one, but they throw a bunch of extras at the end, but at that point I had taken the free version of that tier to get to the final tier. Didn't end up mattering in the end, but still.

Turn based and exploration with a heavy helping of ultra violence.. yes please. Super satisfying after a hard days work and way worth every penny.

I'm not one to review games often, but damn was this so good that it deserves more attention. If you like turn based tactics like XCOM, this is absolutely for you. The first few hours are easy, but there's a depth that opens up halfway through that's on par with the best. Do yourself a favor and buy this. Worth every penny.
