Asking out of genuine curiosity - i'd love to enjoy a VR MMORPG that scratches my oldschool mmorpg itch, but i'd rather not spend money on it if there are no players around to play with.
Last I logged in was last year. Saw one person in 3 hours. Now, I can't even get the game to launch in VR.
So I have not tried melee, but as far as bow combat/spell casting goes:
1.) That you have a penalty for moving and shooting when the enemies are constantly up in your face is just a poorly designed, frustrating mechanic.
2.) It is near impossible to noch an arrow in the bow without looking directly at the x on the bow string and taking your eyes off the combat. That X must have the word's tiniest hitbox.
3.) The enemies run up on you and now you are a ranged character in melee. And it's TS for you. No way to block/parry and no way to defend yourself as you try to back out of melee range. Not that it matters if you do manage to extract yourself. I had several enemies melee me when I was very clearly out of their red attack area.
4.) when the enemies run up on the caster you can no longer see your spell cating marker and therefore you can no longer cast spells once they are on you. And now you are cooked. No attack, no way to block, No way to remove yourself.
5.) At least the archer can fire while they are moving, the wizard cannot cast spells and move at the same time at all.
In general, artificially limiting the player in a VR game like this creates a frustrating and unfun experience. And that is really for any VR activity, but it is especially true for combat, and a major part of Ilysia is combat.
Hopefully you guys will eventually figure this out, but combat in the game has a long way to go before Ilysia will be an enjoyable, fulfilling experience. I haven't gone quite as far as to leave a negative review like a lot of people have, but I can definitely understand why many people have done so.
